Maintenance Engineering Apprentice

· Assist in the maintenance and repair of Herzog braiding machines and Galan winding/twisting machines.

· Support planned preventative maintenance activities across the site.

· Learn and apply fault-finding techniques on mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.

· Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.

· Understand and work with schematic diagrams for electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

· Collaborate with external contractors for systems such as compressed air.

· Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities.

· Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the department.

· Adhere to health and safety policies and ISO 9001 quality standards.



Training:

Formal training for the Level 3 Mechatronics maintenance technician apprenticeship standard is delivered at HWGTA, located in Worcester (WR4 9GN).

Duration approximately 40-45 months.

Year 1, between 22–39 weeks are spent at HWGTA Training Centre developing practical engineering skills, alongside one day per week in the classroom, completing the theoretical elements of the EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.
Year 2, predominantly based in your company, returning to the Training Centre one day per week to continue and complete the specialised elements of their Level 3 Diploma (Development Knowledge).

Years 3–4
Based full-time in your company, developing practical skills and knowledge in preparation for the End Point Assessment to gain your Mechatronics Maintenance Technician Level 3.

 Additional training for functional skills in English and Maths will be undertaken if needed.
