Outage Planning Engineer Higher Apprentice - Warwick

As an Outage Planning Engineer Higher Apprentice at National Grid, you'll join the Electricity Transmission Network Operations and Intelligence team to help plan and manage power outages so essential maintenance can happen with minimal disruption to our customers.

At National Grid we utilise advanced technologies and maintain clear communication channels to enhance system reliability and customer satisfaction during outages. As an Outage Planning Engineer Higher Apprentice, you would play a crucial role in enabling us to do this.

Within this role you will gain experience in creating detailed plans for scheduled power outages, mapping out which lines are affected, what work needs doing, and when it will happen. Working closely with customers, regulators, and neighbouring utilities you will ensure everything runs smoothly, it’s all about smart planning, clear communication, and keeping the electricity flowing.

Key responsibilities of the role Include:

Work in collaboration with substation crews to plan essential maintenance outages that keep the network safe and reliable. Work with key stakeholders to make sure the system is ready and accessible for planned works. Assess risks and complete assessments to help make smart decisions to avoid unexpected issues. Respond to critical faults fast, adjusting plans to keep everything running smoothly. Explain the ‘why’ behind the work, showing the value and impact of each outage.

Training:

Working towards a HTQ in Electrical/Electronic Engineering at Loughborough College and our National Grid Training Academy in Eakring

They maintain a 24/7 service from faults and maintenance, asset replacement to new connections, working outdoors with underground cables, overhead lines and substations that operate between 230 and 132,000 volts, their work is critical to everything we do.
