General Employment Duties:
Support for pupils:
To supervise and provide particular support for pupils, acting on the advice and guidance of the Class Teacher, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities Establish good working relationships with pupils, interacting with them according to individual needs To promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils To establish good working relationships with pupils, interacting with them according to individual needs To encourage pupils to interact and work cooperatively with others and engage all pupils in activities To promote self-esteem and independenceSupport for teaching staff:
To work with the Class Teacher in establishing an appropriate learning environment To use strategies, in liaison with the classteacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals To assist with the planning of learning activities To monitor pupils’ responses to learning activities and accurately record achievement/progress as directed To provide regular feedback to the class teacher on pupils’ achievement, progress, problems etc To promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with the school’s policy, encouraging pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour To establish good relationships with parents/carers To provide general clerical/admin support, eg photocopying, typing, filing, collection money, assisting with displays etcSupport for the curriculum:
To undertake structured and agreed learning activities / teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to pupil responses To undertake programmes linked to local and national learning strategies, e.g. literacy, numeracy, early years To record pupils’ achievement and progress, feeding back to the class teacher and pupils, as appropriate To support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop pupils’ competence and independence in its use To prepare, maintain and use equipment/resources required to meet the lesson plans/relevant learning activity, and assist in their useSupport for the school:
Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, equal opportunities, race equality, health & safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person To be aware of and support difference, ensuring all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school and Trust To appreciate and support the role of other professionals To attend and participate in relevant meetings as required To accompany class teachers and pupils on school visits as required and take responsibility for a group under the supervision of the class teacher.Support for Trust:

Training Outcome:
As well as ensuring full competency as a Teaching Assistant, this standard provides a foundation for potential progression into a number of career paths in the Educational sector including Higher Level Teaching Assistant, Assistant Teacher and Teacher.
