My Client who is a leading manufacturer within their field is seeking an experienced Lead Engineer to join their team due to continued growth and development.

There are 3 positions available covering the below: 


Lead engineer mechanical - Overseeing mechanical engineering within NPI

Lead engineer electrical - Overseeing electrical engineering within NPI

Lead engineer development - Overseeing development engineering within NPI


The purpose of the role:


To lead a high-performing team to deliver product requirements Ensure Control and Co-ordination of the engineering design to meet specifications, ensuring cost effective solutions that meet the prime cost & product requirements. 

Make engineering decision selecting the best solution to engineering problems

Mentor, develop & motivate the engineering team

Accountable for system design

Cooperate with the project leader in development of project plans to meet project deliverables

Support the NPI manager to ensure the team have the correct knowledge & skill sets and identify training/development needs.

Engineering risk identification, control and mitigation.

Able to, escalate, when necessary, to agree appropriate higher-level mitigation.


  Main Duties:


Work closely with the project leader to understand and ensure plans are accurate accounting for fully of engineering effort & skills set.

Responsible for ensuring the engineering output meets the requirements as detailed in the project master specification

Deliver the technical aspects of the product in line with the agreed specification.

Drive consistency of engineering solutions across platforms and machine types

Champion the use of new technologies and actively work with R&D teams (including IDA/Core Tech/Other cross functional technology centres & product companies)

Champion modularity.

Own the system design intent, approve designs, calculations, and test specification.

Ensure designs conform to required Standards and Directives

Own and ensure execution of all compliance, safety testing and type testing, reviewing, and approving reports generated by the engineering team

Be responsible for identifying appropriate PCP engineering deliverables & ensuring they are executed for PCP gates

Ensure valid work packages are created & approve work packages for project execution

Lead by example, ensuring engineers follow safe working practices

Assist in developing engineering process in line with the department needs

Provide direction and support to all team members, leading and facilitating delivery of the product.

Define, update, track and report on team performance.

Preparation & organisation of engineering deliverables for all stage gates. 

Support independent project peer reviews. 

Team Development, coaching, mentoring & supporting individual development

Line management of direct reports


 

Skills and Experience:

 


A good Engineering/Scientific degree

Experience of project coordination and management of teams

10 years involvement in the process of product development in a high technology environment, 3 years' experience leading engineering activities

Experience and understanding of a project governance/ methodology

A proven ability to manage complex engineering task - a strong understanding of delivering engineered solutions, to specification and on budget and on time

Technical/commercial awareness to make appropriate decisions balancing potentially conflicting commercial and technical drivers.

Must be a good communicator and have excellent fluency in spoken and written English.

Strong communication skills, organisational awareness, and impact.

Influencing, communication, presentation and negotiating skills, both internally and externally

Flexible and capable of working in a complex environment

Must have a methodical approach to problem solving.

Excellent IT literacy, being a competent user of MS office

Good Team leadership skills, high levels of energy with strong team engagement.

Driven to deliver solutions, ideas and innovations in a positive and pragmatic way.

Understand the broader business 

Passionate about quality and best practice whilst always striving for continuous improvement.

Knowledge of process improvement

Detailed knowledge of engineering principles and standards relative to the role
