Level 2 Childcare Assistant Apprenticeship

Working as part of a friendly team you will have a varied role to help the nursery run smoothly. Some of your day to day responsibilities may include but may not be limited to:

Supervise and support children ensuring their safety and access to learning Establish good relationships with children, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs Encourage children to interact with others and engage in activities Assist with supervision of children out of session times including before and after sessions, and at lunchtimes Prepare the nursery as directed for sessions and clear afterwards and assist with display of pupils work Be aware of children’s progress / achievements / problems and report to other staff members as agreed Gather and report information from / to parents / carers as directed Be aware of and comply with, policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting concerns to an appropriate person Ensure all children have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required

Training:

You will receive specific on the job training from the employer in your workplace at Tiny Tinkers Childminders.

Off the job training of 6 hours per week will be delivered through weekly sessions with Achievement Training.

You will develop knowledge, skills, and behaviour so that by the end of the practical period your employer is satisfied that you are consistently working at, or above, the level set out in the standard. You will be assessed using, practical observation and a professional discussion supported by a portfolio of evidence. You will be working towards:

Early Years Practitioner Level 2 standard Apprentices without level 2 English and maths (A*-C or 9-4 GCSE or equivalents) will need to achieve this level prior to completion of their Apprenticeship Food safety  Prevent training

You will learn: 

How children learn and the expected pattern of babies and children’s development from birth to 5 years and their further development from ages 5 to 7. Areas of development include: cognitive, speech, language and communication, physical, emotional, social, brain development and literacy and numeracy The importance to children’s holistic development of, speech, language and communication, personal, social and emotional development, physical development and literacy and numeracy How babies’ and young children’s learning and development can be affected by their stage of development, well-being and individual circumstances The significance of attachment, the key person's role and how transitions and other significant events impact children The legal requirements and guidance on safeguarding, security, confidentiality of information and promoting the welfare of children Safeguarding policies and procedures, including child protection and online safety Own role and responsibilities in relation to safeguarding and security, including child protection, reporting and confidentiality of information The legal requirements and guidance for, Health and safety and Security Risks and hazards in the work setting and during off site visits.

Training Outcome:

As an experienced nursery worker, you could specialise in working with children who have difficulties with learning, physical disabilities, or need support with their mental health.

You could take a Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification to progress to room leader, senior nursery worker or centre manager.

You could also study towards a higher education qualification in early years or child development. You could then move into management or early years teaching.

Employer Description:
We are a childminders based in Derriford, Plymouth, providing full support for our children and their families.. Our clients are word of mouth through parents. We have been operating as a family run business for twenty years. and have been rated outstanding for the last sixteen years. There are four adults who work on different days and at different times to provide care for the children.

Working Hours :
The hours would be variable across each week, applicants need to be flexible, Monday - Friday, between the hours of 9am - 5pm. There will be some requirement for the to change these hours some weeks.
