Steel fixing Apprenticeship
As an Apprentice Steel Fixer, you will learn to assemble and erect the steel components required to strengthen reinforced concrete structures, such as bridges, culverts, railway stations, power stations, etc.
Setting out the work area, following engineering plans Using hand and power tools to cut and bend bars or mesh Tying steel reinforcement bars (rebars) to build cagesTypically you will work within a larger team on construction projects, and, in the fullness of time, you will be able to interpret contract information, drawings and specifications, in order to assemble and install the components correctly.
Training:
Level 2 Steel Fixer Apprenticeship Standard:
NVQ Level 2 in Steel FixingThe successful applicant will be enrolled in the Bridgwater & Taunton College Steel fixing apprenticeship.
You will work on one of our 'live' projects and receive training from a recognised provider either one day a week or on a block release.
Training Outcome:
Once you have achieved the Level 2 qualification you will have the opportunity to progress on to the next level. Ultimately, and depending on the individual, you could advance to a supervisory or management role within the construction industry.

Operating as a turnkey specialist structures contractor, we undertake enabling works, complex structural alterations, civil engineering and infrastructure works, reinforced concrete basements, sub and superstructure frame construction and structural steelwork along with dedicated business units in concrete cutting, passive fire protection and waste management.
Working Hours :
17 years old - Monday to Friday 07:30 to 15:30 - 40 hours inclusive of an hour break each day. 18 years old+ - Monday to Friday 07:30 to 17:30 - 45 hours not including up to an hour break each day.
