Marine Electrician Apprentice

A Berthon marine electrician apprentice will learn how to install and maintain all the electrical and electronic systems onboard private luxury sail/ motor yachts and small commercial vessels, including Royal Navy vessels. You will learn how to install cable trays and trunking, engine management systems, batteries and battery monitoring systems, Navigation systems, Radar, GPS, autopilot, mast electrics, commercial and defence electronic systems, shore power and domestic systems including lighting. You will work on both AC and DC systems and learn how to diagnose and rectify faults on both marine electrical and marine electronics systems.

What you will do in your working day:

Engine Instrumentation Electronic Systems Generators Wiring looms Cable management systems (trays, trunking) Domestic systems Batteries and chargers 12v and 24v DC systems 240v/shore supplies Portable appliance testing Sea trials

Training:
Marine Electrician Level 3 apprenticeship standard City and Guilds 2473 Level 2 and 3 in Marine Electrics British Marine Electrical Training (BMET) Marine Electronics Installer (MEI) VHF License Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) Sponsorship to complete Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award Manufacturers’ technical training as main agents for Raymarine, Garmin and Navico Student membership of IMarEST - the marine industry professional body

Training Outcome:

Berthon retains the overwhelming majority of its apprentice graduates. On successful completion of the apprenticeship the offer of a permanent skilled contract at skilled Level 1 with a current salary of £42099. Progression through 6 skilled levels and further training opportunities.
