Apprentice Secondary Maths Teacher
There will be a balance of observing experienced teachers, assisting in lessons, team-teaching, whole class teaching, with University days to learn the maths subject knowledge to teach Key Stage 3 and 4. This balance changes each year to gradually increase your teaching time table.
You will have preparation time to use for planning and assessment of your classes.
You will be linked to a Form Group for pastoral experience (Fidei Group) and have experiences of school trips when available, with experienced staff.
Training:
Apprentices will undertake the Level 6 Teacher Degree Apprenticeship with University of Staffordshire starting in September 2025.
This is a 4-year apprenticeship combining a mixture of on the job training and off the job training whereby you will attend the university for an average of 2 days per week. All face to face teaching will be delivered from our Stoke on Trent campus.
You will be employed by a school as an unqualified teacher. You won’t need to pay any tuition fees as these will be funded via your employer or the government.
You will be partnered with an experienced subject mentor and receive a combination of classroom teaching support, subject mentor guidance and in-house CPD as you work towards achievement of your Bachelor’s Degree and achievement of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

St Margaret Ward Catholic Academy is one of 9 schools within The Newman Catholic Collegiate (8 other primary schools) and shares a sixth form with The Trinity Sixth Form with the other Catholic High schools in the city of Stoke-on-Trent, teaching an A level group. It is an 11-18 secondary school.
Working Hours :
Monday to Friday, times to be confirmed. Would be structured to start with Fidei Time, two 2-hour lessons, 20-minute break, two 2-hour lessons, 40-minute lunch, one 1-hour lesson.
