Golf greenkeeping Apprentice

During your time at Bishop Auckland Golf Club, you will be gaining technical knowledge and collating evidence of learning, be observed and receive training as to how the golf course operates.

Your job role will include:

Golf course preparation A range of mowing Presenting and maintaining playing surfaces for golf Using and maintaining handheld / pedestrian / ride - on machinery Preparing and operating a tractor and attachments Renovating and repairing sports turf surfaces Preparing ground for grass / plants Establishing grass / plants Monitoring and maintaining health, safety and security Establishing working relationships Developing your personal performance

Training:

College attendance is required for this Apprenticeship. You will attend Houghall Campus of East Durham College on a weekly basis at the following address: 

Houghall Campus, Houghall, Durham, DH1 3SG  You will also receive training and assessment in the workplace every 4 weeks. 
 

Training Outcome:

On completion of the apprenticeship, you will be a qualified Greenkeeper, there may be a full time position at the club for the right person.

Situated in the Land of the Prince Bishops, with many stunning views of the picturesque Wear Valley and Auckland Castle, it is easy to see why we are considered one of the treasures in County Durham. Founded in 1894 on land owned by the Church Commission, the parkland course has retained much of its original character whilst being modified to keep up with the demands of modern golf. The Bishop Auckland Golf Course is a par 72 course measuring 6,257 yards. The course has some of the best fairways you could wish to play from and the greens are fine and true. The 7th hole is regarded by many as one of the best in the North of England and has featured in many magazines. The course is truly a good test of golf for all handicaps.

Working Hours :
Work Timings will be confirmed at interview if you are successful. The hours will vary seasonally. this means you will work longer hours in the summer and shorter hours per week in the winter. Occasional weekend work will be required.
