EARLY YEARS PRACTITIONER LEVEL 2 APPRENTICESHIP
Start of Day ( 8:30am):
Help set up indoor and outdoor learning areas (sand/water trays, creative stations, construction, reading corner) Check resources are safe, clean, and accessible Welcome children and parents/carers at drop-off, supporting a calm transition into nursery Encourage independence with coats, bags, and self-registration routinesMorning Session (8:30am - 11:30am)
Support small-group play, modelling language, turn-taking, and positive behaviour Join in child-led activities, extending learning through open-ended questions Assist with toileting, nappy changing, and hand-washing routines in line with safeguarding and privacy guidance Help deliver focused adult-led tasks (phonics, counting, mark-making) under the direction of the teacher/TA Observe and record individual children’s learning to contribute towards EYFS assessments Supervise outdoor play (balancing safety with challenge, e.g., climbing, bikes, role play)Snack & Lunchtime (11:30am - 12:30pm)
Support snack time: helping children pour drinks, make healthy choices, clear away Encourage social skills at the table (please, thank you, conversation) Help settle children for rest/quiet time after lunchAfternoon Session (12:30pm - 3:00pm)
Rotate through continuous provision areas, engaging with children and modelling learning behaviours Support creative/messy play (painting, mud kitchen, music) and early fine motor activities Lead a story or singing session with small groups Support routines for toileting, comfort, and emotional regulation Observe children’s progress against learning goals (with support)End of Day (3:00pm - 3:30pm)
Help prepare the space before children arrive (tables, activities, snack area) Ensure resources are safe, age-appropriate, and accessible Carry out basic safety checks (e.g., exits clear, equipment ready) Join in with play, modelling positive behaviour and encouraging social skills Adapt activities to meet the needs of different ages and abilities Support tidy-up time and encourage responsibility for resources Help with end-of-day circle/story time Share positive messages with parents/carers at pick-up under supervision of the class teacher Assist with cleaning and preparing the environment for the next day After school club dities (till 5.30) Assist with routines, encouraging children to take responsibility Prepare children for collection, ensuring a safe handover to parents/carers Share important messages or incidents with the After School Club LeaderWider Duties:

Daily guidance from staff on child development, EYFS curriculum, care routines, behaviour support, and safeguarding Off-the-job (20%): Training provider sessions on child development, inclusive practice, professional skills, safeguarding, and Functional Skills (maths/English if needed) Mandatory courses: Paediatric First Aid, Food Hygiene, Safeguarding, Prevent DutyTraining Outcome:
Option to move into permanent employment as a Nursery Assistant, Teaching Assistant, or After School Club Playworker Opportunity to progress to a Level 3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship, which is equivalent to A-levels and leads towards higher responsibility roles
