GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The Color Scientist V serves as the organization's subject matter expert in color science, playing a key role in shaping the company's color strategy. They leverage their deep knowledge of color theory to develop and oversee color line portfolios across multiple chemistries. This role works cross-functionally and across business units to ensure precise color matching, consistency, and adherence to color standards for all products.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead, manage, and ideate color development projects across multiple chemistries in support of business initiatives. Present project updates to R&D and corporate leadership, guiding and influencing strategic discussions. Oversee the creation of pigments and color formulations, ensuring alignment with market trends and technological advancements. Ensure pigment production meets quality standards and industry regulations. Conduct analyses of pigments for color strength, stability, and safety. Improve company-wide manufacturing efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality. Maintain compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards in lab and production settings. Provide expert advice on pigment dispersion applications and performance to customers. Manage raw material sourcing, inventory, and logistics for pigment production. Ensure proper documentation of technical and experimental activities. Create project plans, manage tasks, and lead project teams to achieve milestones. Collaborate with stakeholders to guide development and address challenges. Support departmental initiatives to improve safety, procedures, and knowledge retention. Mentor and coach less senior R&D employees, providing opportunities for skill development aligned with business goals.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Color Science
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: 7+ years of experience with creating colored paint, coating, and sealant formulations. Experience muyst include color matching and color theory. In depth experience of color matching in many systems including but not limited to:
Water based products PUMA Urethanes Epoxy
OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to run spectrophotometer
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Incumbent must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb, balance, kneel, talk, hear, taste, smell, and lift up to 50 lbs.
BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION:
The salary range for applicants in this position generally ranges between $111,997 and $139,996 . This range is an estimate, based on potential employee qualifications, operations, needs, and other considerations permitted by law.
