Apprentice Tool Maker (Setter)

A machine (tool) setter installs, operates and maintains the machines used in manufacturing and production. They ensure these machines function correctly and efficiently, allowing businesses to meet their production goals and maintain high-quality standards.

Setting up machines: Machinists configure machines according to specific job requirements, which involves adjusting components and machine parameters. Operating machines: Machinists operate machines during production runs, closely monitoring them to maintain efficiency and quality. They promptly resolve any issues to help meet production targets. Performing routine maintenance: Machinists perform regular maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, lubricating and replacing worn parts. Troubleshooting and problem-solving: Machinists identify and resolve issues when machines malfunction or product quality is substandard. Ensuring safety: Adherence to safety protocols and regulations is a key responsibility for machinists. Quality control: Machinists conduct quality control checks, measuring, testing and visually inspecting parts or products to ensure they meet required specifications. Record keeping: Machinists maintain accurate documentation of machine settings, production runs, maintenance tasks and any issues encountered during manufacturing. Thorough records help track performance, identify areas for improvement and ensure regulatory compliance.

Training:
An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Training Outcome:
Progression to be discussed on completion of the apprenticeship

Shift basis. 6.00am - 2.00pm, 2.00pm - 10.00pm.
