Andrews Recruitment are one of the UK's leading Aggregate & Building Materials Recruitment partners and we’re recruiting for an experienced Estimator to support a major highways and infrastructure contracting business across Yorkshire, Greater Manchester and the wider North West.
This is not just a role for someone who can produce a price. The successful Estimator will understand the commercial, operational and technical detail behind a scheme, build competitive tenders and help present a solution that makes commercial sense to the customer.
The Role
As Estimator, you’ll take responsibility for pricing and tendering work from initial enquiry through to submission.
Typical responsibilities will include:
Producing accurate and competitive estimates
Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender information
Assessing commercial, contractual, operational and technical risk
Obtaining and reviewing supplier and subcontractor quotations
Building tender submissions around customer requirements
Supporting value-engineering and alternative solutions
Working closely with operational and commercial teams
Contributing to tender reviews and bid strategy
Reviewing completed tenders and identifying lessons learned
Ensuring tenders meet internal governance and commercial requirements
What We’re Looking For
We’re interested in people with genuine experience of estimating within highways, surfacing, civil engineering or infrastructure.
You should be able to demonstrate:
Previous estimating or tendering experience
Strong understanding of highways, surfacing, civils or infrastructure projects
Commercial awareness and confidence assessing risk
Ability to interpret technical and contractual information
Confidence working with operational and commercial stakeholders
Ability to work accurately to deadlines
Experience with NEC contracts, highways frameworks or public-sector infrastructure work would be advantageous but is not essential.

Are you a Quantity Surveyor who understands the commercial realities of delivering highways, surfacing or civil engineering projects?
We're recruiting for an established highways and civil engineering contractor in the South East that is looking to strengthen its commercial team with an experienced Quantity Surveyor.
This isn't a role buried behind spreadsheets.
You'll work closely with the operational and senior management teams, taking commercial responsibility across live projects and ensuring works are properly valued, variations are captured, costs remain controlled and projects deliver the margins expected.
The business operates across highways, surfacing and associated civil engineering works, so we're particularly interested in Quantity Surveyors who understand fast-moving, operational contracting environments rather than purely traditional building construction.
The Role
As Quantity Surveyor, you'll take responsibility for the commercial management of projects from initial handover through delivery and final account.
You'll be involved in:
Managing the commercial performance of highways and civil engineering projects.
Preparing valuations, applications for payment and cost reports.
Identifying, pricing and managing variations and compensation events.
Monitoring project costs, forecasts, margins and cash flow.
Managing subcontractor procurement, accounts and payments.
Reviewing contracts and identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
Working closely with Contracts Managers, Project Managers and operational teams.
Ensuring completed works are accurately measured and commercially recovered.
Supporting tender handovers and reviewing project budgets.
Managing contractual correspondence and maintaining appropriate commercial records.
Negotiating and agreeing final accounts.
Providing clear commercial information to senior management throughout project delivery.
What We're Looking For
We're interested in speaking with Quantity Surveyors from backgrounds including:
Highways | Surfacing | Road Construction | Civil Engineering | Infrastructure | Groundworks | Utilities | S278 Works | Public Realm | Term Maintenance
You'll ideally bring:
Previous Quantity Surveying experience within civil engineering or infrastructure.
Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project profitability.
Experience managing valuations, variations and final accounts.
Knowledge of subcontractor procurement and commercial management.
Experience working with NEC contracts would be particularly valuable.
Confidence working directly with operational teams and clients.
Strong negotiation and communication skills.
The ability to manage multiple projects and competing commercial priorities.
A practical understanding of how works are actually delivered on site.
Formal Quantity Surveying qualifications are advantageous, but relevant highways/civils commercial experience is more important than having the perfect academic background.
