The apprentice will be working alongside a director and/or team leader providing class support in the initial instance, with the view of the apprentice becoming a full-time martial arts instructor with Tiger Martial Arts. The apprentice will be instructing mostly children aged 4-14

Set up, check and prepare sports, fitness and activity areas ready for use
Carry out routine cleaning tasks and ensure facilities remain clean, safe and well maintained
Complete equipment and facility safety checks and report any faults or concerns
Support the day-to-day operation of the sports centre, following health and safety procedures
Welcome visitors, answer enquiries and provide excellent customer service
Supervise users throughout the facility and promote a safe, inclusive environment
Lifeguard pool sessions, respond to emergencies and provide First Aid when required
Complete operational records, including pool tests, equipment checks, cleaning logs and incident reports
Assist with facility bookings, events and external hire activities
Support student lifeguards, staff and volunteers during activities and events
Help with maintenance and improvement projects around the facility
Attend training and work towards Level 2 Leisure Team Member, NPLQ, Swimming Teacher and Gym Instructor qualifications
Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies at all times
Training:The apprentice will complete a Level 2 Leisure Team Member Apprenticeship over approximately 18 months, although this may be completed sooner depending on existing qualifications. Training will include the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), Level 2 Swimming Teacher qualification and Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification.
Training will be delivered through a combination of on-the-job learning at Dauntsey's Awdry Sports Centre, onsite classroom sessions and online learning. The apprentice will work alongside experienced staff while developing practical skills and knowledge. Lifeguarding is a key aspect of this role and an integral part of the apprenticeship. The successful candidate will be supported to achieve and maintain the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), allowing them to become a fully qualified and active lifeguard. Training is planned for the October half-term break (26-31 October 2026, 08:00-17:00) and forms an essential part of the programme
Training:In years 1 and 2 the postholder will study the Leisure Team Member Level 2 apprenticeship, as well as completing relevant courses associated with the job role including lifeguard and fitness instructor L2. This will be followed in years 3 and 4 by the Leisure Duty Manager Level 3 apprenticeship as well as an option to complete a fitness instructor L3. On successful completion of both apprenticeships the postholder will be appointed to Trainee Duty Manager and continue to support the duty management team.

On a day to day basis you will be undertaking:
All general duties of a gym instructor will be covered
Working alongside the gyms PTs to get excellent experience and knowledge from other members of the team
Opening up the gym following the opening up procedure
Keeping vending machine stocked
Welcoming members into the gym
Ensuring all areas of the gym are tidy at all times
Filling up centre feed rolls and spray bottles throughout the gym as required
Emptying bins as required
Advising members on correct technique in the gym on an ad hoc basis
Providing programming / training advice to members - writing programs if necessary
Showing new members how to work cardio and weights equipment - writing programs as necessary
Cleaning of gym equipment
Vacuuming / mopping floors / cleaning areas in the gym as required
Maintenance checks of gym equipment
Changing room checks on a regular basis
Involvement in studio classes - will begin by shadowing our class instructors before being considered for own class
Ensuring members follow our club rules
Potential for the right candidate to take on personal training clients
