We are currently recruiting for an Mechanical Assembler/Mechanical Fitter for our client in Christchurch. For the role of assembly mechanic you will be required to repair, modify or overhaul a variety of aircraft parts and components.
Key responsibilities of the Mechanical Assembler / Mechanical Fitter include:
- Overhauling and modifying mechanical, pneumatic, heat transfer, electronic, air turbine, and electro-mechanical aircraft components
- Fault finding, strip-down, initial inspection, parts call-up, rebuild, and final testing
- Working to approved technical data, service bulletins, and maintenance manuals
- Prioritising and processing units to meet customer delivery dates
- Completing all work in line with quality procedures and approved manuals
Essential skills for this Mechanical Assembler / Mechanical Fitter role:
- Strong mechanical assembly and fitting experience
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals
- Confident in inspection, measurement, and fault diagnosis
- Comfortable working to strict procedures and quality standards
- A methodical, organised approach to hands-on engineering work
Desirable experience:
- Aerospace or aviation component overhaul experience
- Background in precision engineering, hydraulics, pneumatics, or electro-mechanical systems
- Experience working within regulated or audited environments

This is a hands-on role covering the full development lifecycle, from concept and design through to testing, production support, and customer integration.
What Youll Do
- Take ownership of hardware design and delivery across the entire product lifecycle.
- Specify and design high-speed digital boards for products and test equipment.
- Create, build, and test development and production test equipment.
- Capture schematics and support PCB layout activities.
- Collaborate closely with Mechanical, Software, and Systems engineers to ensure seamless integration.
- Perform hardware design verification and support system/software testing.
- Produce development and production test processes and documentation.
- Provide production support, including resolving test and manufacturing issues and training production staff.
- Address design changes, component obsolescence, and integration of secure data products into customer platforms.
What Were Looking For
- Degree in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
- Full hardware development lifecycle experience with a strong grasp of electronic design fundamentals.
- Proven track record in high-speed digital circuit development and signal integrity.
- Skilled in hardware testing and troubleshooting using oscilloscopes, logic analysers, and similar tools.
- Proficiency with industry-standard CAD tools (e.g., Cadence or Mentor schematic/layout).
- Must be a UK national and able to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC).
Desirable Skills
- Experience supporting production and applying Design for Test (DFT) and Design for Manufacture (DFM) techniques.
- Embedded firmware design (C/C++/Assembler/Python).
- Software design for test and test-equipment development.
- Ability to write test specifications and conduct hardware/system testing.
