Training:
You will be required to attend Advance 2 Campus, Dudley College, DY1 4AD, 1 day per week in term time only
You will be assigned an assessor who will visit you in the workplace every 6-8 weeks to support you on your apprenticeship
You may be required to complete funtional skills in maths/English as part of this apprenticeship
You will receive a Level 2 Engineering Operative - Fabrication & Welding qualification upon successful completion of this apprenticeship

Operate manual and CNC lathes, milling machines, surface grinders and other associated machine shop activities to manufacture high precision components.
Carry out tool repairs and the maintenance & servicing of tools, dies and fixtures to keep production lines running.
Technical interpretation incl., reading engineering drawings, designing tools / jigs / fixtures from prototype sketches, blueprints or CAD models.
Using metrology equipment like micrometres, verniers, and gauges to check work against specifications.
Bench fitting and performing manual tasks including drilling, reaming, tapping and tool assembly. Making sure tooling is working correctly.
Installation & commissioning of new tooling.
Liaising with internal departments, and production colleagues.
Controlling toolroom stores, and equipment.
Monitoring and controlling costs.
Dealing with emergencies, unplanned problems, and repairs.
Compliance & safety; following strict health & safety regulations including risk assessments and “lockout tagout” procedures.
Maintaining accurate logs of toolroom work, new components introduced and equipment performance.
Liaising with external toolmaking contractors.
Training:
You will work with expert assessors and tutors to develop new knowledge, skills and behaviours within the profession.
You will experience a blended learning model.
This programme is delivered via a day release delivery model which means that one day per week, your attendance is required at our Engineering Campus. This attendance is required during term time only.

The Role – Machine Shop Operative (CNC), based in Brackley
As a Machine Shop Operative, you’ll be responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC machines, ensuring high-quality components are produced efficiently and safely.
Key responsibilities include:
Setting up and operating 3-axis CNC machines, including offline programming for prototype and production work
Carrying out routine maintenance in line with scheduled requirements
Operating manual and digital saws, as well as drilling, tapping, and overhead routing equipment
Supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) and providing feedback for Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives
Maintaining high-quality standards using a “No Fault Forward” approach
Recording production data, machine settings, and process adjustments

Key Skills & Experience
Proven experience operating CNC machines (3-axis preferred)

Performance Measures

Billing Management:
Support the updating, processing, and generation of invoices for product and project orders, ensuring accuracy with guidance from the team
Assist with physical billing tasks, such as preparing and sending invoices when required
Work with Supply Chain and Project Managers to learn how stage payments and milestone dates are tracked and communicated
Help review and resolve billing discrepancies by liaising with customers and internal teams, with support from senior colleagues
Milestone and Stage Payment Setup:
Learn how to set up stage payment billing for new product orders based on agreed schedules
Assist in setting up milestone billing, ensuring it matches project deliverables and planned payment timings
Accounts Receivable & Credit Risk:
Support the onboarding of new customers, including helping to gather information needed for setting payment terms and credit limits
