As an apprentice, you’ll work at Murray Tech and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff. The apprenticeship tasks/focus will be around training in all aspects of control systems as well as gaining extensive knowledge of engineering materials.
Apprentices will be working as part of the team, working to complete the requirements of the Fitter Standard. To ensure you gain the experience you will:

Training:Apprentices will undertake a Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard programme. This will include a full-time period of practical workshop based ‘off-the-job’ training at SETA’s Apprenticeship Centre in Southampton.
You will also begin a knowledge qualification (depending on your prior attainments) where you will be required to attend SETA one day a week over two academic years.
After your initial training at SETA, you will be with your employer working on developing your skills; ultimately leading to your End Point Assessment.
SETA will make regular visits during this period of time to ensure you will covering all the required aspects of the Standard, which includes a practical element, a theory test and a professional discussion, regarding the work achieved with your employer.
These final tests are administered by an independent assessment organisation and take place in the last three months of the apprenticeship.Training Outcome:Once the apprenticeship has been completed there are plenty of opportunities for further training and personal development.

What You’ll Be Doing:
Supporting our engineering team with maintenance of plant equipment and undertaking preventative tasks
Gaining critical knowledge in Engineering Maintenance Procedures, Mechanical Systems, and Electro, Pneumatic, and Hydraulic Systems
Learning to input data into our maintenance systems and assist with production data analysis-strong computer skills are a must!
Working within our Health and Safety guidelines to ensure a safe working environment
Training:
During the first year, you will attend Make UK Training School for 4 weeks at a time to study the Level 2 Diploma - AUEC Practical Workshop Units. You will then return to the factory for 2 weeks to apply the skills you have learnt in those 4-weeks practically within your factory. In the 4 weeks you are studying at Make UK Training school you will be required to stay over Monday - Friday in Birmingham (all travel and hotel costs are covered by Ibstock)
Your second and third year is based at the factory with block release to the Training School to begin studying your BTEC Level 3 Diploma and Level 3 Diploma - Development Competence (assessed at factory)
During your fourth year you will be based in the factory putting your newly gained skills and knowledge into practice and completing your Level 3 Diploma. The final year also includes your End-Point Assessment which once successfully completed leads to your new role within Ibstock as a qualified mechanical/electrical/multi-skilled or dual-skilled engineer
Training Outcome:Once you complete your apprenticeship, you should expect to progress to a maintenance engineer, however the sky in the limit. Studying a range of subjects, including Electronic Fault Finding, Features and Applications of Electrical Machines, and Principles and Operations of Three Phase Systems to name but a few.
In addition, going forward you will also study a number of Mechanical units in both your knowledge and competency qualifications such as Maintaining Mechanical Equipment and Mechanical Fault Diagnosis to build your expertise in both electrical and mechanical engineering.

Assisting a senior engineer with small works as required
Assisting the installation team with the installation, commissioning and handover of electronic security systems
Working to system specifications/plans/drawings
Liaising with end users/clients on-site
Competing all relevant paperwork
Learning and working to the BS/EN Standards and NSI Codes of Practice
Completion of other associated paperwork and documentation
H&S training/tool box talks via our H&S portal
Applicants should have good IT skills and the ability to use Microsoft Office
