Training:The apprenticeship training is delivered through a combination of workplace learning and regular college attendance.
This training will teach you the knowledge, skills and behaviours set out in the Machining Technician Level 3 standard.
On completion, the apprentice will receive a Machining Technician Level 3 qualification.

You will undertake extended periods within each department learning to select timber and veneers
You will become competent in using basic machinery and power tools as well as learning construction techniques and manual skills
You will learn the importance of accuracy, attention to detail and the importance of thorough preparation prior to the finishing process
You will learn how to mix stains and apply primers and topcoat spray lacquers
Training:
You will gain a Level 2 NVQ in furniture making, which will be achieved by on-the-job training and a 10-week block release at Rycotewood College in Oxford
By the end of the training period, you should be competent in basic machining and entry-level cabinet making
Training Outcome:
On successful completion of your apprenticeship, and in discussion with the Production Director, you will be offered a role in keeping with your level of ability. This will usually be as an entry-level role, but could be as a cabinetmaker, machinist or polisher
As you become more skilled, you can progress to being a Lead craftsman with the possibility of taking on skilled supervisory roles or moving into a specialist skills position such as a CNC operator or draughtsman

The apprenticeship includes manufacturing processes such as Milling, Turning and Hand Fitting/Bench Skills using a range of equipment including CNC and manual machines.
All aspects will involve the production of reports, reading and understanding technical data and drawings.
The apprenticeship has a machinist bias with an expected opportunity at the end of your apprenticeship to join our manufacturing team to produce high quality, precision sealing solutions for the automotive, power generation and aerospace markets
The apprentice will be taught, and will have the opportunity to put into practice, skills which will be relevant to successfully complete your apprenticeship
The apprentice will earn a salary and achieve recognised qualification(s) whilst gaining practical hands-on experience
Duties and Responsibilities:
Attend college as required to achieve the qualification(s) in selected apprenticeship
The Apprentice will train at Cross Manufacturing, supported by Bath College, to achieve an industry standard in the chosen apprenticeship whilst also gaining relevant work experience
Where appropriate we will involve the apprentice in different areas of the business; this will further enhance skills, knowledge and understanding of our industry
Training:
You will be required to attend college two days per week, term time only at our Somer Valley Campus in Bath
Training Outcome:
There may be an opportunity to continue to study to HNC level

Completing assembly including jointing side panels, cross components and fittings
Quality checking your work throughout
Fixings including hinges, locks and catches
Sanding ready for finishing
Operating a variety of powered tools including chisels, screwdrivers, routers and biscuit joints
Operating powered machinery to produce components, including crosscut and dimension saws, sanders, moulders, 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machines
Final quality control checks
Training:During your apprenticeship programme you will receive training both off and on the job. You will attend WEBS Furniture Training for one day each week, and the rest of the time you will be within the workplace. Upon successful completion you will receive a Level 2 Engineering Operative - Mechanical Manufacture qualification
You will be assigned an assessor who will visit the workplace every 6-8 weeks to support you on your apprenticeship
