Years 2–4: The apprentice will move to a day release format (one day at the Technical School and four days at the Gillingham site) while working towards their Level 3 qualification. Duties & Responsibilities:
Support the manufacture, assembly, and finishing of composite components and tooling
Assist with lay-up, vacuum bagging, curing, trimming, and inspection processes
Operate workshop machinery and equipment safely and effectively
Work with advanced composite materials and associated consumables
Support automation and advanced manufacturing activities within the workshop
Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions
Carry out quality checks and maintain accurate production records
Complete a Level 3 qualification with Weston College and apply learning on site
Training:
3-year 3-month scheme which combines on the job training and classroom learning
1st year is spent mainly at college except for when you’ll come to NCC to put what you’ve learnt at college into practice and learn even more
2nd and 3rd years are spent mainly at NCC with one day a week at college
Qualification - NVQ 2&3 and BTEC Engineering AwardYou will rotate around different departments and sectors within NCC workshop including automation
Training Outcome:
This is a fixed-term apprenticeship contract lasting 3 years and 3 months, including the EPA period
Upon successful completion, technician vacancies may be available, and apprentices can apply and go through the standard interview process
Career progression is dependent on individual performance and business needs

This Engineering Apprenticeship programme is designed to create a skilled engineer capable of mechanically maintaining all plant, and provide engineering expertise and support throughout the organisation.
On successful completion of the apprenticeship, as a Skilled Engineer you will:
Mechanically and electrically maintain all plant, equipment and services on site
As required, diagnose mechanical and electrical faults and provide rapid break down response
Work with and manage contractors on site and, where applicable, raise Permits to Work (PTW)
Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with the company’s in-house procedures, 5 S housekeeping standards and any relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation
Utilise and develop the company’s Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to maximise plant and equipment up-time
As required, develop maintenance instructions and standard operating procedures
Implement and deliver first line maintenance training to end users
Assist in the development of the company in-house training programme
Proactively manage and deliver continuous improvement initiatives to maximise efficiency, reduce waste and improve working practices and standards of safety
As required, assist with the identification of new plant and equipment and the justification for capital expenditure

As applicable, up-date P & IDs and any other mechanical and electrical engineering drawings

What will the apprentice be doing?
The Engineering team includes Manufacturing Technicians who are line-based Engineers predominantly on our fast paced highly automated Nurofen and Strepsils packaging lines and specialist support Technicians covering Manufacturing to Packing and Site Services
You will be given a structured training pack which you will work through during your apprenticeship, and you will be given various work placements to gain the skillset required to come out of your time a well-rounded engineer
