Cisco Network Engineer
Up to £52,600 per annum
Fully remote based role
Working for a global technology company we are looking for a Senior Network Engineer to look after the companies technical estate, ensuring that networks and firewalls are maintained and provisioned to support the business.

Accountabilities within this role:
As the Senior Network Engineer, you will be responsible for all the networking infrastructure of both on prem and cloud network components
Your main day to day activities will be to assist the Network Team lead in day-to-day upkeep / project and cloud network migrations of the network services
You will also be working with a network engineer and helping to upskill them and to take design lead / technical delivery according to the plans
A vital key to this role is the constant review of the firewall policy’s and to review the overall infrastructure and to make sure there are no potential risks / vulnerabilities which are not fully documented / evidenced / recorded.
As the Senior Network Engineer you will be responsible for all internal networks and external networks so a good knowledge and understanding of MPLS / VPN’s is key the same as HA firewall solutions and network segregation leveraging strict VLAN’s and network zoning
From a monitoring perspective we use SolarWinds and PRTG but will be moving towards Zabbix as the overall solution going forward
Network monitoring services are in place on all devices
Regular backups of switches / routers and firewalls are in place
Regular patching of network equipment is maintained / in place and CAB process followed.
Multi datacentre networking and multi-site networking globally
Skills and experience required:
Good knowledge of PowerShell
Good general knowledge of network protocols such as TCP / UDP port mappings and vlan’s
Good understanding of the following technologies but not limited to just them – Cisco switches / Cisco routers / Cisco firewalls / Radware load balancers / Fortinet firewalls / OSPF/ MPLS
Exposure to Citrix NetScaler an advantage
VPN setup on both Cisco ASA / Fortinet firewalls
Understanding of core IT Concepts
Problem resolution and root cause analysis
Have a good understanding of ITIL practices
Solarwinds exposure an advantage
AWS / Azure / VMWare certifications or extensive experience beneficial
Help desk ticket interaction
Change process experience required
Solid Cisco Router / switch and Firewall knowledge essential
Fortinet Firewall knowledge an advantage
Radware NLB knowledge an advantage
Good background in Citrix NetScaler technology would be ideal

Key responsibilities:
To be the technical expert accountable for the customer solution design during the post-sales delivery phase of a customer solution, leading detailed design and integration meetings.
To support the Pre-sales function with the understanding of requirements and design of solutions, in particular supporting non-standard requests and making recommendations, especially when customer requirements are not a best fit for a standard service.
Responsibility to adapt the standard core services (defined by Core Engineering) to bespoke customer requirements. It is expected that this would normally be by design changes on the CE only.
Provide technical consultation for Pre-Sales, attending customer pre-sales meeting when required to capture detail, provide technical input.
To be the conduit between the presales and post sales teams to ensure an approved customer design is transitioned into delivery (particularly when requests are bespoke).
Define IP/VOIP, designs/test plans and execute.
Deliver full solution documentation and carry out handover into the relevant support areas.
Develop a deep technical and environmental understanding of the customer and their solution.
Maintenance of solution design documentation throughout a customer’s lifecycle
To promote standardisation of change types within the customer solutions and lead on the development of supporting blueprints
Technical Skills:
• Vendor-specific experience in Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Meraki…etc
• In-depth understanding of routing protocols, internal and external BGP, OSPF, EIGRP & RIP.
• Familiar with common Internet protocols, e.g. SNMP, SMTP, ICMP
• Advanced knowledge of routers, switches, firewalls, Access Control Lists (ACLs)
• Detailed knowledge of core network routers and infrastructure
• Hands-on experience of IP / VOIP network design, implementation and troubleshooting
• Hands-on Cisco exposure backed up with relevant Cisco accreditation
• Detailed understanding of Layer2 and Layer3 MPLS VPNs from the Core to Customer Edge (P / PE / CE) including VRFs
• A strong background in configuring firewalls for both Corporate and ISP services, to include: VPN Client and Site2Site IPSec Policies, Advanced DPI Policies for Internet Traffic and Centralised / Virtual Firewall Policies for VPN Customers.
• Detailed understanding of all aspects of QoS (Traffic Shaping / Policing / Scheduling / Congestion Management and Avoidance). Specific experience with deploying QoS in a voice and / or converged environment would be advantageous (using both IPv4 and IPv6).
