Due to expansion, we are looking for two Building Surveyor Apprentices to join our team.
You will be responsible for ensuring the pubs within a designated region of our Managed Pub Estate comply with relevant statutory obligations and are maintained in accordance with agreed Company and Divisional standards. If you are a passion for property, we’d love to hear from you.
Carrying out building surveying duties as directed within a defined geography on a diverse range of managed pubs.
Facilitate the effective delivery of a property surveying programme, carrying out annual property inspections, prioritising repairs, and scheduling PPM work.
Liaise with the operations teams to provide technical advice and expertise on repairs and maintenance. Assist in managing the capital and revenue budgets and deliver the best value.
Create proactive maintenance solutions to improve service and reduce cost.
Utilise best practice, common procedures and continuously improve the same.
Communicate with the operational teams and provide appropriate information on maintenance spend and understand their priorities
Assist a Regional Surveyor in directing a team of outsourced support service providers, including quarterly KPI review meetings.
Ensure compliance with GK policies and statutory requirements.
Assist the Regional Surveyors with statutory compliance responsibilities (fire risk assessments, asbestos etc.) Signing off on compliance works, assisting in managing and scheduling works.
The role will require a blend of time in our Burton office, in the field and liaison with the Head of Surveying. Training:
Chartered Surveyor Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship (Building Surveyor Pathway) BSc (Hons) plus APC with RICS to become chartered.
One day per week on NTU City campus.

As a Level 6 Apprentice Quantity Surveyor, you’ll learn how:
We procure construction contracts for the maintenance and build of UU assets
To commercially manage construction contracts, ensuring that they are delivered in accordance with the contracted terms and conditions and that all issues are mitigated and managed to protect United Utilities' commercial interests
To develop a working knowledge of various forms of construction contracts
To manage post-contract commercial processes and procedures to deliver key commercial requirements on projects
To negotiate and resolve contract claims and disputes, and support senior managers in the resolution of escalated issues
To communicate, influence and work well with contractors and suppliers as well as a wider variety of teams across the company internally

Training:Your apprenticeship will last 72 months, and successful apprentices will achieve a Level 6 Chartered Surveyor (degree) standard, endorsed by the Institute for Apprenticeships. Study will be on a day-release model. Typically, this will be four days a week working and one day a week (or an equivalent amount of time) studying at a partner university. As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
The role will include providing support during the design stage of projects to forecast and plan budgets, to help architects and designers to design construction projects to meet cost targets and to support the selection of constructors and the negotiation and agreement of construction contracts.
The role will also include working through the construction delivery stage of projects to manage all financial aspects of payments, managing change and negotiating the settlement of final accounts with building contractors.
