Contract Senior Structural Engineer
A leading firm of Consulting Engineers with multiple office UK wide are looking to hire a Contract Senior Structural Engineer for a 6 month role to start immediately.
The role will involve surveys, inspection, carrying out building safety reports and general defect surveys on small works and high risk buildings.
Due to an increased workload our client is looking for the right individual to start immediately. All applicants must have a minimum of 10 years experience plus. Chartership or close to being chartered would be advantageous.
Hybrid working conditions can be offered with 3 days in the office and 2 from home. All applicants must live within easy commuting distance of Central London.
On offer is an hourly rate up of around £50 p/h for the right individual based on an Inside IR35 assignment.

KHR is working with a growing engineering consultancy to recruit an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity to join a multidisciplinary engineering team working on technically challenging projects across a wide range of industrial, manufacturing and process sectors.
The role will involve supporting projects from initial concept and feasibility through to detailed design, installation and commissioning. You will work across mechanical design, plant layouts, piping systems and engineering analysis, developing practical, safe and efficient solutions for a varied client base.
The role does include occasional travel to clients spaced out across the year, so a full UK driving licence is required.
Key Responsibilities - Mechanical Design Engineer
- Develop mechanical designs from initial concepts through to detailed design, fabrication and installation.
- Produce 2D and 3D engineering drawings, including general arrangements, fabrication drawings, piping isometrics and manufacturing details.
- Design plant layouts, equipment arrangements, process pipework, skids, platforms and access systems.
- Carry out engineering calculations, design assessments, equipment selection and design verification.
- Undertake mechanical stress, structural, FEA and piping stress analysis.
- Conduct site surveys and technical inspections, including 3D laser scanning and point-cloud data.
- Coordinate designs with other engineering disciplines, participate in model reviews and identify potential clashes.
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, calculations and supporting documentation.
- Liaise with clients, suppliers, fabricators and internal project teams.
- Provide technical support during design reviews, installation and commissioning.
- Check designs, support junior team members and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, engineering standards and client requirements.
Requirements - Mechanical Design Engineer
- A BEng (Hons), MEng or MSc in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status (highly advantageous)
- Experience in pharmaceutical, chemical, oil/gas, energy, manufacturing or other process industries (highly advantageous)
- Several years' postgraduate mechanical design experience within industrial, manufacturing or process engineering.
- Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD 2D, Inventor, AutoCAD Plant 3D or equivalent design software.
- Experience with piping stress analysis software, such as ROHR2 or CAESAR II, and FEA tools such as ANSYS Mechanical or Inventor Nastran.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design, industrial plant, process pipework, engineering calculations and design verification.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, technical specifications and engineering drawings, with knowledge of relevant standards and codes.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to client sites, including occasional overseas travel.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with CFD, advanced FEA, structural or thermal analysis.
- Familiarity with Navisworks, Revit, 3D laser scanning and point-cloud software.
- Experience designing skids, pipework supports, platforms, walkways and other industrial structures.
- Knowledge of standards such as ASME B31.3 and EN 13480.
- Experience supporting installation, commissioning, design checking or mentoring junior engineers.

A well-established independent consultancy has an immediate requirement for an experienced senior level mechanical design engineer to join their design team in their Buckinghamshire office.
The successful candidate will be responsible, under the leadership of the Director/Associate Director, for the project management of medium to large scale projects and individual engineering task(s) for numerous schemes for client's cross sector.

A well-established award winning multi-disciplinary consultancy has an immediate requirement for an experienced senior level mechanical design engineer to join their design team in their Edinburgh office.
The successful candidate will be responsible, under the leadership of the Director/Associate Director, for the project management of medium to large scale projects and individual engineering task(s) for numerous schemes for client's cross sector. This will include the creation, development of and finalising engineering design solutions of mechanical services elements, working with other team members and project teams together with direct liaison with the client and other design team professionals. Attendance at regular project meetings, site inspections and monitoring or works at a site level will be key functions of this role.
The candidate shall have experience across the breadth of mechanical building services such as:
- Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) inc. ISO Clean/Dry Rooms
- Hot and Cold Water
- Compressed Air
- Steam
- Foul Drainage Above Ground
- Central Control/Building Management
The candidate should also be able to:
- Complete survey work and site inspections
- Undertake design calculations using various methods, from hand calculations to software-based modelling
- Prepare drawn information
- Write technical specifications
- Write technical reports
- Identify and resolve problems early
- Exhibit active project risk management
- Peer review and check design information prepared by others
- Manage a project specific team of engineers
- Maintain records and archives to company standards
- Manage their own workload to meet defined targets and deadlines
- Allocate and manage project specific workload of Graduates, Project Engineers and Admin staff
- Manage commercial aspects of projects they are working on including responsibility for management of project income and costs
- Manage client relationships on specific projects
- Look for additional opportunities within existing and new client relationships
- Take responsibility for their own professional and personal development
- Input and some responsibility for professional and personal development of team members, staff Performance and Development Reviews and mentoring of staff
They are seeking established building services engineering candidates who have been working within building services and specifically building services consultancy with at least Ten [10] years post graduate 'hands on' design experience.
The candidate should be a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with either the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) or the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and possess a building services/architectural engineering degree and/or masters.
Accreditation via an appropriate Institution i.e. CIBSE under an Energy Assessor Scheme for the production and lodgement of non-domestic Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)'s for both new build and existing (refurbishment) buildings is desirable.
The candidate for this position will have a high level of computer literacy a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Autodesk Revit MEP, Cymap and ideally EDSL Tas. The successful candidate will be a required to provide support to our other teams and/or offices from time to time.
The ability to operate as part of a wider project team within appropriate authority levels and to represent the company with confidence to a variety of clients and outside organisations is expected. - Assist in the design and specification of mechanical building services systems including heating, cooling, ventilation, domestic water, drainage and medical gases.
- Prepare design calculations, equipment schedules and technical submissions under supervision.
- Develop schematic and layout drawings in collaboration with CAD/Revit teams.
- Support the preparation of technical reports, design narratives and schedules for inclusion within tender and construction packages.
- Undertake and record site surveys and inspections.
- Liaise and coordinate with architectural, structural, and electrical teams as well as external consultants.
- Assist with compliance checks against HTMs, HBNs, CIBSE Guides, and Building Regulations.
- Support senior engineers in client and design team meetings by preparing materials and following up on actions.
- Contribute to practice improvements and maintain design quality standards.
- Work towards Chartered status (CIBSE/IMechE/IHEEM).
You should have the following:
- Degree or HNC/HND in Building Services or Mechanical Engineering
- Working towards professional membership (CIBSE/IMechE/IHEEM)
- Experience in mechanical building services design (consultancy or design-and-build)
- Familiarity with mechanical services for healthcare and complex building environments.
- Working knowledge of design software (IES, Hevacomp, Revit, AutoCAD, Excel).
- Awareness of UK Building Regulations, CIBSE Guides, HTMs and HBNs.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a project team.
