My client seeks a Quantity Surveyor to join them in Edinburgh. This office is fairly new so there will be plenty of prospects for promotion for an ambitious QS.
They are seeking someone either at Project Surveyor level or a good Assistant Quantity Surveyor with 2 years + post graduate experience with a firm of PQS.
My client works on a good range of projects for residential, leisure facilities, industrial warehousing, schools and more.
They offer excellent support towards taking the APC to become RICS qualified along with good prospects for promotion.
THE COMPANY
My client is an established firm of PQS with two offices currently.
They work on a good range of projects up to around £120m in value.
THE CANDIDATE
You will be a Quantity Surveyor who is currently working for a UK firm of PQS.
My client would like someone who has around two years or more post graduate experience doing pre and post contract work.
You will need to have a recognised UK qualification in Quantity Surveying i.e. BSc in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics or similar and have around 2 plus years experience working for a PQS firm either post graduation or during your Degree if you were doing your BSc on day release.
You may be working towards taking your APC towards becoming RICS qualified or keen to do so.
You should have used JCT contracts and any knowledge of NEC contracts would be useful.
You should have excellent communication skills, both written and spoken to deal with people at all levels.
Salary is very negotiable plus benefits including pension, APC support, RICS fees, discretionary bonus, hybrid working one day per week, 26 days holiday plus public holidays, access to buy VIP tickets for the Hydro etc.

Estimating:
Creating & reviewing chain tenders/quotations
Identifying best value quotes to the project
Liaising with the Design & Operational Managers with the construction process
Liaising by telephone/email with clients and sub-contractors
Preparing sub-contractor invitations to tender
Preparing return packages for tender
Preparing return tender invitations for presentation to client
Maintaining records of tenders submitted and their progress
Commercial:
Prepare sub-contract orders in line with the project particulars, financial targets and on programme requirements
Prepare sub-contract orders in line with company procedures including all contractual documents
Once sub-contractors places make sure that all relevant Site Managers & Contract Managers have all the relevant order information
General Assistant:
To provide general assistant as identified to the Senior Quantity Surveyor and Director
Answering the telephone and dealing with general enquiries
Compiling mail shot directors for new contacts
Issuing letters and enclosure to new contacts
Filing:
General admin duties as directed
Preparing builders BoQ and take-off

Site Support

Skills & Competencies
Some experience or education within MEP, building services, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, construction or a related discipline.Ability to read and understand technical drawings.Good understanding of basic building services principles.Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.Strong attention to detail and accuracy.Good organisational and time-management skills.Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.Willingness to learn and develop technically.Good written and verbal communication skills.
