Maintain lab instruments to ensure proper working order + troubleshoot malfunctions as needed. Dev, improve, + customize products, equipment, formulas, processes, + analytical methods. Conduct quality control tests. Direct, coordinate, + advise personnel in test procedures for analyzing components + phys properties of materials. Formulate or optimize any coating product in a known technology to meet defined requirements. Design + conduct feasibility + cost savings studies independently. Compile + analyze test information to determine process or equipment operating efficiency + to diagnose malfunctions. Confer with scientists + engineers to conduct analyses of research projects, interpret test results, or develop nonstandard tests. Write technical papers + reports + prepare standards + specifications for processes, facilities, products, or tests. Induce changes in composition of substances by introducing heat, light, energy, + chemical catalysts for quantitative and qualitative analysis.
Must have Bach in Chemistry, Materials Science or related field and 5 years real exp with coatings or polymer research, and the following skills (5 yrs exp): characterization skill for polymeric materials, including viscosity, molecular weight, rheology profile, or mech properties; structure-property relationships for designing new polymer materials; and safety protocols and handling hazardous and flammable materials. Alternatively, may have a Master's in Chemistry, Materials Science or related field and 2 years real exp with coatings or polymer research, and the following skills (2 yrs exp): characterization skill for polymeric materials, including viscosity, molecular weight, rheology profile, or mech properties; structure-property relationships for designing new polymer materials; and safety protocols and handling hazardous and flammable materials. GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The Quality Managers manages the Quality Process to ensure we are effectively meeting our key business metrics and satisfying all customer product requirements. Key responsibilities include Quality, Lean and Six Sigma, and Continuous Improvement with responsibility for ISO quality systems and compliance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee all quality related functions in the plant. Act as primary plant liaison with Customers dealing with their processing issues. Participate in the development of specifications for processing, products, and materials. Work directly with Corporate and local Purchasing on vendor quality or supply issues; assist with vendor selection and qualification. Manage ISO Quality systems. Lead the lean/six sigma initiatives in the plant. Respond to and report on customer complaints - manage the root cause investigation, corrective action implementation and follow up, and the SAP quality process. Interact professionally and timely both verbally and in writing with customers and sales force. Develop quality standards for raw materials and finished product. Oversee all lab functions and personnel, assuring safety and integrity of those operations. Perform testing on raw materials and finished product as required. Implement material cost saving plans where and when appropriate. Participate in annual budget planning. Assist in all compliance activities, especially HazCom and maintaining SDS system. Other projects/tasks as assigned.
EDUCATION: Bachelors degree in Quality, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials, Polymer, or Business is required.
EXPERIENCE:
4+ years of experience is required. Experience with chemical batch-making operations and quality programs, such as Lean, ISO, Six Sigma, is required.

ISO certification is required
