GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Responsible for conducting routine material testing, supporting product and polymer development, analyzing raw materials, investigating product failures, maintaining laboratory documentation, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for routine testing of materials with various analytical instrumentation, including but not limited to: FTIR, TGA, DSC, GPC, GCMS, microscopy, titrations, etc. Supports product and polymer development efforts through material characterization, with supervision. Assists in value engineering projects through analysis and characterization of commercial raw materials, with supervision. Performs root cause analysis of product and installation failures of construction materials, with supervision. Engages in training activities for proper operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of analytical laboratory equipment. Maintains project documentation and reports for all conducted laboratory testing. Performs calibration verification activities as needed in accordance with ISO 9001 Quality Management System. Conducts all work in accordance with laboratory safety and housekeeping guidelines.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Applicant must be a Junior or Senior enrolled in a university, pursuing a 4-year chemistry degree.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Incumbent must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb, balance, kneel, talk, hear, taste, smell, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Executes tasks of quality control testing, including analyzing, recording and reporting accurate results in a timely fashion. Communicates results with the Process Chemist and if directed, Plant Operators/Supervisor. Participates in R&D & technical services projects to include gathering necessary raw materials / intermediates. Assists when requested in testing of materials being worked on related to R&D or Process Improvement • Collects and prepares high quality, accurate samples for customers and prepares for shipment. Maintains clean and organized lab work area. As directed, manages lab chemical inventory and stock /storage room re-organization. Participates in all environmental and safety training as required by Federal, State, County, and Local regulations as well as company policies. Suggests improvements for safety and compliance. Promptly reports any safety incidents and participates in incident investigations as requested. Additional duties may be added or removed as management requires.
Placement Criteria:
Minimum education and practical work experience: bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or related field and 1-5 years' experience working in an analytical lab or similar position, or a suitable combination of education and relevant experience. Specialized technical/aptitude experience: minimum of 1-5 years' experience and demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with gravimetric and analytic techniques. Extensive knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the chemical manufacturing industry; previous work and/or substantial knowledge of, including commonlyused concepts, practices, and procedures, within in the thermoset polymer industry is a strongly considered asset. Demonstrated ability to prioritize workflow and organize diverse material and ability to handle multiple, competing and changing priorities; ability to perform effectively and problem solve without supervision and within established time limits and ongoing deadlines. Ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally verbally and in writing, and to provide exceptional service internally and externally. Relevant computer skills for this position include knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office applications and instrumental software. Experience with SAGE Platinum for Windows is preferred. Direct and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in buying, selling, and distributing materials, components and supplies for paint making & bulk material deliveries. Resolve vendor or contractor grievances and claims against suppliers. Prepare plant schedule for filling, polymer, batch making and bulk deliveries. Provide year end data for environmental permits, etc. post cycle counts & investigate discrepancies exceeding corporate standards. supervise & develop materials department staff. coordinate with corporate & plant personnel to achieve monthly volume requirements. Communicate with Supervisors, peers, or subordinates: provide information to supervisors and co-workers in written form or in person. Maintain a good record of attendance and punctuality. Learn all manual tasks performed within the department. Perform tasks assigned using specific operating procedures, and following department specific quality control processes and procedures.
