Individuals within the Tekgem Apprentice Network Security Engineer role are part of a team that manage the operation of secure and highly available Operational Technology platforms, servers, and networks.
They support the installation, maintenance, and ongoing performance of the network components. This includes monitoring internal Tekgem and external client operating environments, networks, and related utilities and hardware, responding to incidents and problems as they arise, and taking part in project work.
They will support other engineers with projects to provide clients with network solutions based on specified requirements and anticipated growth. They will install new network hardware and maintain existing hardware where required.

• Documentation & reporting – maintain detailed records of project progress, issues & resolutions. Prepare status reports & technical documentation
• Incident resolution – take a proactive role in fault resolution, post-incident analysis & root cause diagnostics
• On-site testing & maintenance – conduct substation testing using industry-standard tools to diagnose & rectify issues
• Cross-department collaboration – work closely with design, operations & maintenance teams to ensure seamless integration of telecoms solutions
Candidate Profile:
Candidates will be considered from a range of backgrounds but ideally, you’ll have previous experience, ideally gained within an ISP, Network Service Provider, Managed Hosting, Telecom, Technology, ICT, Cloud, Systems / Network Integrator, Utility, Power or similar type of service provider. Your professional or academic experience is likely to include some of the following:
• HNC in Telecommunications (or equivalent professional qualification)
• Experience as a Field Engineer in telecoms, utilities or data centre environments
• Hands-on experience working in data centres, fibre exchanges, substations & telecom hubs
• LAN & WAN internetworking skills
• Proficiency in industry-standard network testers & diagnostics
• Strong understanding of IP networks, Cisco, Alcatel, & Nokia devices
• Rack, charger, & telecoms equipment installation & commissioning
• Industry-standard telecoms testing (BERT, RF sweeps, PIM, TDR, OTDR & OSCAR tests)
• DC power wiring & connection to telecoms equipment in compliance with regulations
• 1st Line Support & troubleshooting for a range of equipment including SDH, PDH, radios, switching systems, PSTN / ADSL & data communication devices
• Routine maintenance inspections for fibres & battery chargers
• Risk Assessment & Method Statements (RAMS) creation & work area/vehicle management
• Proven experience in handover documentation & site surveys
• Ability to troubleshoot & resolve technical issues proactively
• Experience with power tools, hand tools & working at height
• Analytical thinking & problem-solving skills for fault diagnosis

Service technicians are trained in all areas of vehicle mechanics and electronics, from engine and exhaust systems to air conditioning and security features.
The role will vary by the employer based upon the specific needs of the location, but the position typically involves:
Developing an understanding of workshop equipment
Advising the service receptionists about required repairs
Producing time estimates
Maintaining repair and service records
Training:
The programme lasts for at least 36 months (3 years) and you'll achieve a nationally recognised qualification
All our apprentices are employed through the dealer network and attend weeklong block training at our state-of-the-art training centre in Daventry.
Block training is complemented by a combination of regular coaching visits from one of our experienced coaches as well as Virtual Classroom sessions and E-Learning modules
Your development is supported through your apprenticeship journey, with your learning focused towards achieving a qualification recognised across the motor industry
This will provide the foundation to develop your career, as there are lots of opportunities within our expanding dealer network to progress and move into new roles once you’ve successfully completed the programme
Qualification: Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (Light Vehicle)
Before the Standard is met, all apprentices must hold a certificate that meets the EU’s 2014 F-gas regulation
