We are a specialist manufacturer of complex high end technical products based near Luton, Bedfordshire. We are currently seeking a CNC Machinist with experience of setting, operating and programming to join our workshop team on a double-day shift pattern.
We offer a salary of £41.5k (including shift allowance) plus a generous benefits package and paid overtime will be available.
This role will involve the manufacture of components and sub-assemblies from engineering drawings using various machine tools, so an ability to interpret drawings and specifications as well as previous experience of setting and operating a Bridgeport CNC are all key.
The majority of the work will be one-offs and small batch volumes. Components range in size and complexity from micro components up to large multi-part fabrications. You will also be required to manufacture and modify tooling such as jigs and moulds.
We are looking for motivated Engineers who are comfortable working to high tolerances, have strong problem solving skills, and are able to offer ideas for improvements for both parts and manufacturing processes.
We welcome applications from candidates who have completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualifications. Good communication skills are important for working within the team environment and understanding safety procedures, as are time management skills. We are flexible on the industry sector from which the successful candidate will come from so long as they are able to demonstrate the skills and experience required for this position.
Applicants may be currently or previously working as a CNC Setter, Operator, Programmer, Miller, tool maker, tooling engineer, manual machinist with CNC background, mechanical fitter, or recently completed a manufacturing apprenticeship.
The double-day shift pattern alternates every week:
Week 1 Early shift: Mon-Thu: 06.00 – 14.00, Fri: 06.00 – 13.30,

Preferably at least 5 years’ experience in industrial Environment.
Knowledge of PLC, Inverter and Automation systems preferable

As a Principal Control Systems Engineer you will be responsible for the technical aspects of the design, development and testing of software for controlling powertrain components and associated equipment, focusing on delivering solutions to a high quality standard.
Responsibilities:
Own the design, development, test and documentation of the control code for various powertrain components such as including motors, inverters, chargers, DC-DC’s and vehicle/powertrain control units and the associated equipment (i.e. manufacturing and test equipment).
Define a standardised approach to the control architecture, following industry best practice and functional safety considerations.
With support from Functional Safety Engineers, specify the functional and safety requirements for the system and ensure alignment with other engineering functions such as Electrical Engineering.
As a Principal Control Systems Engineer you will lead the development of device drivers and algorithms for state estimation in vehicle control systems, optimising performance.
To develop fault management strategies appropriate for each application.
Documenting and maintaining the BMS Boundary Diagram, and BMS FMEA.
Define testing procedures for software related functions and supporting tests where necessary.
Working with cross-functional teams to ensure plans are in place for the delivery of supporting software and hardware, identifying resource requirements to maintain on time, on cost and on budget delivery.
Liaise closely with the mechanical and electrical engineering teams to ensure that designs are optimised at all levels, across all departments.
Perform calibration of sensors and instrumentation.
Develop strategies for thermal management of powertrain components.
Integrate vehicle dynamics functions into the vehicle control system code where necessary, such as longitudinal slip control, supported by code generated by vehicle dynamics and simulation engineers.
Support the selection of hardware and software capabilities, particularly control unit selection, I/O allocation, software tools/compiler requirements, etc.
Experience required:
Degree in Software / Hardware / Electronics / Electrical Engineering or other relevant Engineering degree
Experience in design and delivery of automotive powertrain control systems from design to launch/production in automotive or motorsport applications as part of an OEM, Tier 1, or consultancy.
Extensive knowledge of ICE & EV powertrain components and architectures.
A high level of competency with typical software coding tools and software validation tools such as Matlab, Simulink, C++, etc.
Familiarity with Functional Safety methodology and requirements.
Experience with developing vehicle control systems for ICE and/or electric vehicles
A good understanding of vehicle test and approval standards

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
Supports all manufacturing and facility needs by repairing and/or maintaining all equipment necessary to do all jobs. Assists in the installation and startup of new equipment to support all manufacturing and facility needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform routine and non-routine general/preventive maintenance to ensure machines and business systems continue to operate safely and efficiently, and the physical condition of equipment and buildings do not deteriorate. Respond to manufacturing and facility needs in a safe, timely, and effective manner to minimize production and operations downtime. Inspect drives, motors, belts, fluid levels, and filters. Operate wire and stick welding equipment. Operate cutting and other machine shop equipment (drill press) Operate tow-motor and scissor lift. Maintain maintenance area and parts stores in orderly and neat conditions. Follow up on work to ensure problems are resolved or operations continue safely and effectively. Perform work in a safe manner and follow all shop safety rules. Any other tasks as assigned.
EDUCATION:
High School diploma required. One-year certificate from college, technical school, or manufacturing training program preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 2 years maintenance experience. Industrial maintenance is preferred. Experience in 480-volt 3 phase, and high voltage DC electricity preferred.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to troubleshoot electric, air systems, and hydraulic systems. Knowledge of lockout/tagout, arc flash requirements, and hot work permit. Ability to work overtime as needed; ability to meet deadlines. Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond urgently to down equipment. Effective team player, self-motivated, and a quick learner. Good communication skills with the ability to read, write, and communicate fluently in English and effectively. Knowledge of rubber extruders/molding presses is a plus, but not required.

OSHA safety preferred.
