The role
The Fugro Marine Environmental team within the Marine Site Characterisation business line is now looking for an experienced and driven Marine Environmental Scientist to join the reporting team to be based in either our Portchester office or Edinburgh’s Heriot Watt University campus on a 1 year fixed term contract to cover for maternity.
This is a pivotal role, reporting into the Senior Marine Environmental scientist, you will be analysing multi‑parameters datasets including photographic data, macrofauna data and physico‑chemical data and producing high quality technical reports.
The Marine Environmental team specialises in environmental site characterisation and environmental monitoring. The data we collect enables our clients and regulatory organisations to fully understand the effects of developments and activities in the coastal and marine environment.
Your key responsibilities will include ensuring work is of the highest standard and quality ensuring the protection of the environment and prevention of pollution in accordance with company procedures. You will be involved in the preparation of environmental technical reports, utilising relevant statistical analysis of data and mapping software, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met.
You will ensure all activities are carried out to company specific standards and are in line with our QHSSE policies.
Who we’re looking for
Essential
BSc in Marine Science or Environmental Science, or equivalent;
Minimum of 1 year relevant practical experience;
Experience of marine macrofauna identification and/or physical and chemical analysis;
Experience of scientific/technical report writing;
Experience of statistical analysis;
Good Microsoft Office capabilities;
Excellent written and oral communication skills;
Proven ability to work to deadlines.
Desirable

Key tasks and Responsibilities of a GRP Finisher:
- Repairing and finishing all product lines.
- Removing Imperfections.
- Completing works to scheduled deadlines working directly with lead operatives.
- Work with QA team to ensure that parts that are being manufactured effectively and according to drawings and specification books to ISO standards.
- Completing large and small repairs using gel and fibreglass.
- Finishing gel coat by hand using a variety of tools including wet/dry paper, finishing compounds, orbital sanders, polisher, DA sander, long boards and blocks.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
- Competent with the application of gel in disciplines such as 4 gel repairs, new job complete re-gel, wax gelling.

The company is looking for an experienced technician that can work with the team to create preliminary concept designs and take them through to final manufacturing detail and construction drawings.

Plan, organise, control, co-ordinate, lead, motivate, delegate and communicate to achieve optimal balance between cost, time, quality, benefit and risk on projects of complex projects.
Lead and coordinate project teams and drive a positive safety culture. Create suitable governance, communication lines and clarity on project roles and responsibilities and coaches project team members to deliver their full potential.
Develop project documentation including execution, risk management and performance plans. Identify and mitigate project risk and exploiting opportunities in collaboration with the business development, proposal development, technical and operational staff.
Monitor project budgets, schedules and performance and take any mitigating action to avoid risks and exploit opportunity. Maintain an up to date financial forecast.
Liaise with clients fostering harmonious relationships, reporting on project progress.

Who we’re looking for:
Essential
A degree in an engineering discipline, project management or equivalent in education and experience.
Professional project management qualification Prince II, PMQ or PMP or working toward award.
Membership of an appropriate professional body.
Extensive experience in a project delivery environment.
Strong experience in project management.
Excellent communicator (i.e. verbally and written) with the ability to target communication style to various internal and external stakeholders.
Computer literate, with proficient use of Office 365 software, particularly Word, Excel and Microsoft Project.
Capable of generating a safe and quality-based culture within the offshore and onshore team.
Ability to work well under pressure and effectively manage and delegate a workload.
