GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of process and facility-related equipment. Equipment inspection includes preventative maintenance (PM) and associated documentation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Comply with all safety policies (especially Cardinal Rules - e.g. Hot Work, LOTO, Confined Space), Partner with Maintenance Supervisor and Facilities Manager to support LEAN initiatives to eliminate unplanned production interruptions due to process equipment failure, Implement the needed preventative measures, including optimization of PM program, Ensure reliable operation of facility support processes and utilities (i.e. HVAC, Steam Boilers, Air Compressors, Tow motors, Cooling Towers, Hot Oil Heaters), Diagnose/Troubleshoot, repair/replace and maintain facility electrical systems (e.g. programmable logic controllers, human machine interfaces, lighting) and components (e.g. sensors, switches, valves), Diagnose/Troubleshoot, repair/replace and maintain facility mechanical systems (e.g. product vessels/reactors, pumps) and components (e.g. piping, manual valves), Investigate equipment/process failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, Assist Maintenance Supervisor to arrange and coordinate contractor tasks (including equipment rental) to support facility and process maintenance/repairs, Serve, as needed, on process hazard analysis (PHA) teams/sessions

EXPERIENCE
One-year certificate from college or technical school and 1-2 years' experience OR High School Diploma and 4 years' experience

Training:This Apprenticeship ensures you complete on and off the job training elements for the standard and at the end of the journey will complete a level 3 apprenticeship as a machining technician.
As a part-time apprentice on this pathway you will complete 14 months (2.5 days a week) at In-Comm training academy in Telford Unit 5A T54 Business Park Nedge Hill, and attend Telford Plastics 2.5 days a week.
Once the 14 months in-house training has been completed you will continue to attend the academy for ½ day a week to complete the technical training element of the programme.

General Welders Programme
Summary:
Year 1:
Our Apprentices will study with Sheffield College at our onsite engineering training centre based at our Stocksbridge site until moving into their first site attachment area at Rotherham, Brinsworth or Stocksbridge which may include shifts.
As a Speciality Steels Fabrication & welding apprentice you will achieve:
Training to a competent standard on welding equipment including MMA/MIG and oxygen fuel burning
Undertake welding and fabrication activities to create test pieces meeting international standards and surface inspections.
Study towards the level 2 certificate required for the apprenticeship standard
Preparation including all Health & Safety training ready for transition into the Structural and Fabrication Departments
Year 2:
As a 2nd year Apprentice you will move onto site attachments which may also include shifts within the Structural engineering department, which also will include the Rotherham, Stocksbridge & Brinsworth sites where you will:
Prepare for your end point assessment
Undertake Coded Welding Assessments
Work along side our expert structural and welding engineers to gain experience in order to develop your skills in this field of engineering
Year 3:
In the final year of your apprenticeship you will:
Continue to work along side our expert fabrication and welding engineers to gain further experience and progress to more complex tasks and projects within the structural and fabrication departments
Complete your end point assessment
Undertake a practical trade test and interview to confirm that you meet Speciality Steels high
Training:
General Welding (ARC processes) Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard - delivered at Stocksbridge Training Centre
Training Outcome:
You can expect to start your career as a team member in a specific department. After that the next step would be to become a Craft Team Member, then onto a Team Leader. After that, there are numerous career paths that you could follow
You could become a Maintenance Technician, Engineerand Senior Engineer. Alternatively you might aim to be a Plant Engineer, Works Engineer and Director of Engineering
Alternatively, you might choose to move around different specialisms ‐ from production planning to safety
