Job Description:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Primary Teaching Assistant to join our team and provide specialised support for pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) within our mainstream school environment. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring that all pupils, regardless of their individual needs, have access to quality education and support tailored to their requirements.
Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one or small group support to pupils with SEN, both within the classroom and in designated support areas.
Assist the class teacher in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Individual Behaviour Plans (IBPs) for pupils with SEN.
Support pupils with SEN in accessing the curriculum, adapting materials and resources as necessary to meet their individual needs.
Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where all pupils feel supported and valued.
Work collaboratively with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), teachers, and other support staff to ensure the effective implementation of support strategies.
Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teachers and SENCO as required.
Assist with personal care and/or medical needs of pupils with SEN, in accordance with school policies and procedures.
Contribute to the planning and delivery of interventions aimed at addressing specific learning or behavioural needs.
Liaise with parents and carers, providing regular updates on pupil progress and seeking input on support strategies.
Participate in relevant training and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in supporting pupils with SEN.
Requirements:
Previous experience working with children, particularly those with SEN, either in a school or similar setting.
Understanding of different learning styles and strategies to support pupils with diverse needs.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, and parents/carers.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the educational development of all pupils.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues to meet the needs of individual pupils.
Flexibility and adaptability, with the willingness to respond to the changing needs of pupils and the school environment.
Relevant qualifications such as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Certificate or equivalent are desirable but not essential.
An enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance, or willingness to undergo this process.
Knowledge of relevant policies and legislation related to SEN, such as the SEND Code of Practice, is advantageous.
