1 to 1 SEMH Teaching Assistant

The Role: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1-1 Teaching Assistant to work closely with a primary-aged child with SEMH needs.

The successful candidate will provide tailored support to enable the child to access learning opportunities, develop social skills, and manage their emotions effectively.

This is a rewarding role that requires patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for making a positive difference in children’s lives.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide one-to-one support to the designated child, both in the classroom and during activities outside of the classroom.
Implement individualized learning plans and behavioral strategies, in collaboration with the class teacher and SENCO.
Foster a supportive and inclusive environment where the child feels safe, valued, and encouraged to engage in learning.
Help the child develop coping strategies and emotional regulation techniques.
Monitor and record progress, contributing to regular reviews and assessments.
Communicate effectively with parents/carers, colleagues, and external professionals involved in the child’s support network.
Collaborate with the wider school community to promote understanding and awareness of SEMH issues.

Requirements:

Experience working with children with SEMH needs, preferably in an educational setting.
Strong understanding of SEMH and its impact on learning and behavior.
Ability to build positive relationships with children, adapting support strategies to meet individual needs.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Patience, resilience, and a non-judgmental approach.
Relevant qualifications or willingness to undertake training in areas such as Safeguarding, First Aid, and Positive Behavior Support.
