Reporting To: Machine Shop Manager
Supervisory Responsibility: May assist with training trainees and apprentices (as needed)

CNC Turner Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Conventional/CNC Turner to join our growing team.

You will play a vital role in ensuring the high-quality production of machined components for our heavy engineering projects.

This role requires a strong understanding of conventional and CNC turning techniques, the ability to work with tight tolerances, and a commitment to safety and quality.

You will also have the opportunity to develop your skills further by assisting with the training of future machinists.

CNC Turner Key Responsibilities:

- Precision Turning: Operate both conventional and CNC lathes to produce high-quality components up to 20 meters in length, adhering to strict dimensional tolerances (+/- 0.05mm).
- Technical Expertise: Interpret and follow 2D engineering drawings to plan and set up machines, processes, and tooling effectively.
- CNC Programming: Utilize basic Siemens control programming to automate CNC lathe operations.
- Material Handling: Safely operate overhead pendant cranes for loading and unloading materials.
- Quality Control: Conduct thorough inspections of components throughout the machining process to ensure they meet all specifications.
- Machine Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks such as swarf removal, oiling, and greasing to keep machines in optimal condition.
- Shop Organization: Maintain a clean and organized work area within the Machine Shop.
- Safety Focus: Strictly adhere to and promote safe working practices in the Machine Shop.
- Flexibility and Adaptability: Demonstrate a willingness to adapt to changing workloads and learn new skills as needed.
- Training Support (Optional): Assist the Machine Shop Manager with training new machinists on turning operations (may vary).

CNC Turner experience:

- Proven experience in operating conventional and CNC lathes.
- A strong understanding of machining principles and techniques.
- The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Experience with basic CNC programming (Siemens controls preferred).
- A strong work ethic, a proactive approach, and a willingness to learn.
- A commitment to safety and a clean and organised work environment.
