Autocare Technician Apprenticeship
So what will you be learning?
You will complete oil changes, this includes draining old oil and replacing it with fresh oil, as well as changing oil filters.
As well as rotating tires for even wear or replacing worn-out tyres.
You will be checking and refilling engine coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and windshield washer fluid.
Testing vehicle batteries and replacing them if necessary.
Basic Engine Repairs: Assisting with tasks like spark plug replacement, air filter changes, or working on the belts and hoses.
You will be learning how to check and replace transmission fluids.
Assisting in setting engine timing and tuning as part of more advanced learning.
Assisting in removing old brake pads and installing new ones.
Suspension Work: Helping to replace or repair suspension components like shocks, struts, and springs.
Exhaust System Repairs: Assisting with repairs on the exhaust system, including mufflers and catalytic converters.
Emissions System Maintenance: Learning to maintain and repair systems related to reducing emissions, such as the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation)
valve.
Assisting with the maintenance and repairs of the vehicle's electrical system.
Fixing or replacing bulbs, fuses, or wiring related to the car's electrical components.
Additionally, you will work with hand tools such as wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, hammers as well as power tools such as impact wrenches, grinders, drills, and other power equipment to assist with repairs and maintenance.
You will learn to use Diagnostic Equipment such as OBD-II scanners, engine analysers, and other diagnostic tools to identify and troubleshoot vehicle issues.
You will using necessary Lifting Equipment Including Hydraulic lifts, jacks, and other tools designed to safely raise vehicles for repairs and inspections.
Brake and Suspension Tools used specifically for working on brake systems, suspension components, and wheel alignments.
Air tools: pneumatic tools for efficient and powerful work on larger jobs.
Safety & Cleanliness will consist of:
Maintaining a Safe Work Environment: Keeping the workshop clean and organised, making sure all tools and equipment are properly put away.
Learning Safety Protocols: Ensuring that all safety guidelines are followed while working with tools and equipment.
Listening to Customer Concerns: Taking notes on customer complaints and conveying them to the lead mechanic to aid in troubleshooting.
Training:
Level 2 Autocare Technician Functional Skills in English and maths if required
Training Outcome:
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, a full time postion may be offered.
