Medical Engineering Apprentice

During the apprenticeship the apprentice will gain and apply the following skills/knowledge:

To train to undertake safety testing, routine maintenance and minor repairs on medical equipment To plan workload and prioritise tasks under supervision, upholding working standards, policies, procedures and objectives in order to maintain standards and service delivery Use computer skills to operate the asset management system (OPTIM), in order to record activity and equipment details ensuring that the information is accurate for both customer and managerial needs Maintain safety in the use and maintenance of medical equipment, by ensuring all equipment delivered into the department is correctly decontaminated, labelled and cleaned prior to acceptance Diagnose and carry out medical equipment maintenance and repairs Be conversant with various aspects of Planned Preventative Maintenance regimes. Use all relevant tools and equipment. Understand fully the inter-relationship between various systems linked to equipment Actively participate in the operation of the medical engineering management system including completion of all paperwork required of the scheme (including completion of all job information and time sheets) Obligation to undertake training where necessary to learn new techniques, specifically in relation to specialised testing and maintenance routines Possess the ability to communicate and liaise with all levels of staff on possible technical matters regarding essential equipment maintenance Liaise with ward/department Managers to arrange access for all equipment repair and maintenance Learn new techniques with additional training as part of the role

Training:
The successful applicant will have monthly workshops via remote delivery and attend Dudley College campus for 15 days over the duration of the 3-year programme (3 x 5-day block delivery).

Training Outcome:
A full time position may be available upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.

Working Hours :
Hours: 37.5 hours over a five-day week. Shifts to be confirmed.
