Apprentice Commis Chef
During the Commis Chef Level 2 Apprenticeship at the Royal Garden Hotel, students will be expected to:
Learn and apply basic cooking techniques such as boiling, frying, grilling, and baking.
Support senior chefs in meal preparation and plating.
Maintain a clean and organised workstation, following food safety and hygiene standards.
Assist with stock control and inventory management.
Help with food storage and labelling.
Follow recipes and cooking guidelines provided by senior chefs.
Contribute to the daily upkeep and cleanliness of kitchen equipment.
Learn and implement portion control techniques.
Support the kitchen team during service in a fast-paced environment.
These tasks are designed to help build core skills while gaining valuable experience in a professional kitchen.
Training:
Training for the Commis Chef Level 2 Apprenticeship at the Royal Garden Hotel will take place both on the job and at Westminster Kingsway College.
On the job: You will receive hands-on training at the Royal Garden Hotel, working alongside experienced chefs in a 5-star kitchen.At College: You will attend classes one day a week at Westminster Kingsway College, located at Victoria Centre, 76 Vincent Square, London SW1P 2PD. This will provide you with theoretical and technical culinary education from expert tutors.
The combination of practical and academic learning will ensure you develop a well-rounded skillset.
Training Outcome:
At this stage, they may:
Be offered a full-time position at the Royal Garden Hotel, depending on performance and availability.
Have the opportunity to progress to a higher role, such as a Demi Chef de Partie, within the hotel or another establishment.
Continue their professional development by pursuing further qualifications, such as a Level 3 Chef de Partie Apprenticeship or specialised culinary training.

Working Hours :
Various shifts to accommodate your learning and classwork but also shifts that work with our needs of the business needs you will work 32 hours and 8 hours at college. Meaning a 40-hour week. Days and shifts TBC.
