Apprentice painter
1. To work as part of a team to carry out painting/decorating and related works to external and communal areas of Gateway Properties and work in occupied and vacant properties either as a stand-alone job or in conjunction with other trades.
2. To receive works orders from the Scheduler remotely via mobile phone or PDA or verbal instruction from the Supervisor
3. To attend as quickly as possible any emergency repair requests issued by the Scheduler.
4. To maintain a diary of non-emergency repairs visits both to occupied and vacant properties.
5. Where the work involves materials and/or equipment which do not appear in their van stock, to attend the authorised merchant and/or hire centre in advance to obtain materials in accordance with purchasing procedures.

6. Upon attending an address, to introduce themselves, show an identity card and describe the work to be undertaken. If the work needed is substantially different to that on the order, to ring the office for further instructions.
7. To complete the repair works as rapidly as possible ensuring that a quality job is done and, wherever possible, completing the job at the first visit. If this is not possible, the property should be left clean and tidy, a follow-on appointment agreed with the resident, and the computer system amended accordingly.
8. Following completion of the repair, to remove all rubbish and arisings from site.
9. To complete and enter records of all work undertaken on the mobile phone or PDA or to manually record work undertaken if required before moving to the next job.
10. Where instructed, to carry out planned, void or day to day works either on their own or part of a team.
11. To be aware of his/her responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act and ensure safe working systems and procedures are adopted at all times including the wearing, and maintenance of, appropriate personal protective equipment.
12. If issued with a company van ensuring that it is driven in accordance with Gateway’s safe driving policy. Also to ensure that it is kept clean and in good tidy condition and carrying out weekly maintenance tasks such as checking oil and water levels and tyre condition and pressures.
13. To comply fully with the company’s’ health and safety policy and procedures.
14. To maintain personal tools, and any tools supplied to you by the organisation, in good/clean working order.
15. To use any mobile communications equipment provided in accordance with guidance and procedures.
16. To always ensure compliance with Gateway’s policies and procedures but especially its Equality and Diversity Policy.
17. Any other duties commensurate with the grading of the post.
Training:
You will be enrolled for the Painter and Decorator Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard course and be required to attend one day a week.
