Academic Editorial Publishing Apprentice
Preparing and administering the sending/signing of non-royalty bearing contracts for book and digital products (contributor etc)
Commissioning peer reviews (proposals, manuscripts, articles) and soliciting pre-publication endorsements for projects as requested by their manager; ensuring these are delivered in a timely way; recording the progress of all projects under review/out for endorsement; ensuring payment as necessary
Taking responsibility for monthly pub procedure
Arranging the ordering of copies of published books
Maintaining physical and electronic book files and records
Supporting editorial staff in managing data on internal databases (Biblio and BCM)
Responding promptly and appropriately to external and internal inquiries
Checking and, if necessary, clearing copyright permissions under guidance from manager
Carrying out research into new projects on request of manager
Sending emails/letters of acknowledgment and rejection
Undertaking administrative tasks such as filing and archiving paperwork
Setting up new titles on Biblio (our bibliographic database), and ensuring that any changes to projects are updated promptly and in line with key dates
Setting up and managing proposal review feedback for new projects
Preparing monthly title reports for author-chasing
Training:
LDN Publishing Apprentices provide support at every stage of the publishing process. The course covers the entire publishing journey, from the conception of a book, digital product, journal or other product, through to production, sales, marketing and publicity processes.
Publishing Professional Apprentices provide support for specific areas across all key parts of the publishing process from the conception of book, digital product, journal or other product (such as educational resources), through to the production, in a variety of paper and digital formats, and then to support the sales, marketing and publicity processes.
Publishing Professionals will usually be involved with aspects of publishing which include editorial, marketing, sales, publicity, production, rights or digital. They will have an awareness or skills which stretch across the publishing process, particularly in smaller organisations.
They will typically report to an Editorial Manager and are involved with editing, proofreading and briefing external stakeholders about their work and the work of colleagues.
