Apprentice Laboratory Support Technician
As an Apprentice in the world leading Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine, you will contribute to the daily organisational tasks in running our ‘state of the art’ research laboratories and scientific buildings.
You will be trained in a range of technical activities by working alongside administrative staff, technical staff, researchers and postgraduate students.
Your work will include:
General laboratory housekeeping and understanding the management of scientific equipment Health & Safety within a scientific workplace Purchasing equipment/supplies and helping with scientific tasks within the laboratoryIn addition to this you will have access to a number of relevant in-house training courses run by the University training provider Oxford Learning Institute, Health & Safety Office and Oxford University Computing Services for IT skills.
Training:
Through the training provider, CSR Scientific Training, you will undertake a Level 3 Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship which will include:
Fully recognised apprenticeship qualification - Level 3 Laboratory Technician On-the-job competency training Theoretical knowledge - BTEC Level 3 Applied ScienceThe majority of your learning will be completed online once a week with some face-to-face practical sessions/exams in Sutton Coldfield.
Upon successful completion, apprentices can apply for professional registration as a Registered Science Technician, RSciTech, with either the Royal Society of Chemistry or Royal Society of Biology.
Training Outcome:
This is expected to lead to a job as a Laboratory Technician or a Research Assistant depending on the level of qualification attained and to feed into a Laboratory Management career path

The Centre for Immuno-Oncology (CIO) investigates how our immune system reacts to cancer and what we can do to improve tumour immunity. We combine deep fundamental understanding of immunology with preclinical studies to translate new knowledge into clinical trials with the aim of developing new life-saving treatments for a spectrum of cancers. Oxford’s long history of excellence in immunology is now focused on cancer, and CIO is the hub of the University-wide Oxford Cancer Immuno-Oncology Network (OCION) which links immuno-oncology researchers from multiple disciplines from across the University of Oxford, its affiliated hospitals and industrial partners.
