Sports Turf Operative / Groundsperson Apprentice

Welling United FC Academy CIC are seeking 2 x apprentices to support the refurbishment and maintenance of it’s sports facilities that are located in London SE9.

This is a varied role that includes supporting the senior management team in ensuring that the sports sites are safe and that associated areas are ready for training and matches.

Undertake routine grounds preparation, maintenance, renovation, and general upkeep of all sports turf surfaces (e.g. natural turf, hybrid turf, artificial turf). Prepare a surface for play in line with the relevant rules of each sport's national governing bodies. Prepare and establish ground for grassed areas for sport. Use machinery, equipment, and vehicles in accordance with organisational requirements, manufacturers’ instructions and Health and Safety legislation. Identify and communicate faults with equipment and machinery to relevant personnel. Maintain the cleanliness of machinery, equipment, sports grounds, and work areas. Ensure a safe working environment and the adoption of safe working practices. Assist with the movement of equipment and materials, and their installation around the sports ground and playing areas. Maintain effectiveness of sports turf irrigation and drainage systems. Dispose of waste in accordance with organisational procedures, legal requirements and taking into account environmental sustainability. Identify and communicate incidence of sports turf weeds, pests, diseases, and disorders. Use integrated prevention and control methods to reduce the incidence of diseases, disorders, pests and weeds on turf. Mark out playing surfaces (including arcs and squaring off using the 3-4-5 method).

 

 



Training:

You will be studing Sport Turf at Hadlow College one day per month

Sports Hub Our vision includes providing multiple sports including the largest growing sport in the world, Padel Tennis. Padel is so popular because of the social aspect of the game, players get to meet a lot of different people and make new friends while playing a great sport. Furthermore, our vision includes providing community facilities that include a community gym and open spaces for all ages to enjoy. The site will become a central hub for youth football as Welling United FC Academy benefit from a new home. Community The new organisation structure for the running of the GB10 Sports Ground will directly involve the participation of local people in sport. The facilities will not be exclusively for sport and will be available to all community organisations to hire and use the appropriate facilities. For example this could include a local photography group, a cultural society holding weekly meetings or a knitting group using the cafe. Everyone will be welcome to make GB10 Sports their home as the aim will be to create a community within the community.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8am to 4pm and Saturday 8am-1.30pm
