Machining Apprentice

Machinists in the advanced Manufacturing Engineering sector are predominantly involved in highly skilled, complex and precision work, machining components from specialist materials using conventional and/or CNC machine tools such as centre lathes, vertical and horizontal milling machines, horizontal and cylindrical grinding machines, electro discharge machines, single and multi- axis CNC machine tools centre They will be expected identify and mitigate any issues by determining best practice, along with machine and tool suitability, to then program, set up, operate and adjust/edit equipment settings as applicable to the machine tool being used to produce precision components for a number of industry sectors (oil and gas, renewable energies, medical, motion control valves, aerospace, defence, to name a few). When using CNC equipment, they will be expected to be able to produce, prove and/or edit programmes. During and on completion of the machining operations they will be expected to measure and check the components being produced and make adjustments to the equipment/programme to ensure components meet the required specification Following Health & Safety in the workplace

Training:

The apprenticeship training is delivered through a combination of workplace learning and regular college attendance. This will include 2 days at College in the first year, then 1 day a week for the following 2 years. The final year will be spent solely in the workplace.

The training will teach the knowledge, skills and behaviours set out in the Machining Technician standard. On completion the apprentice will receive EAL L3 Extended diploma in Machining (Development Knowledge).

Training Outcome:
For the right candidate future prospects are excellent. Metaltech are keen to progress and develop their apprentices. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship there may be the opportunity of a permanent position.
