Site Carpentry Apprentice

The role:

To work under the direction and guidance of an experienced supervisor or craftsperson, carrying out all aspects of carpentry work on new builds and refurbishments.

The Apprentice will work towards and be expected to achieve a Level 2 qualification in Site Carpentry.

Tasks will change daily, depending on the nature of the project, but in general will include:

Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed, Receiving, checking, and moving deliveries of building materials, Preparing materials ready for use, anticipating requirements of the team, Assisting with alterations, removing rubble, loading skips, Assisting with groundwork, including digging out and removing waste, Assisting with block work, including preparing mixes, Assisting with plastering, Protecting and / or cleaning up finished surfaces, Assisting with roofing, including loading materials up/down the scaffold, Cleaning & tidying vehicles and tool stores, Maintaining stock of consumable materials in the vans; keeping records, Any other duties, as instructed by the site team, Learn the process of understanding drawings and work in accordance with specifications,

Installation of the following:

Timber fixtures and fittings, Door and window frames, Roof trusses and wall partitions, Cut roofs, Stud work, Skirting and architrave, Floor joists and floor boards, Temporary supports for concrete, Kitchen and bathroom units.

Attend College on a day release basis, and undertake any additional training as requested

Take part in the apprentice review process, Follow Health & Safety policy and procedures, including the wearing of personal protective
equipment (PPE) where needed, Use all tools, equipment and materials safely, Build and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, customers and managers.

Training:
If not yet already obtained Maths and English grade 4/C or above, you will have to attend Functional Skills at Weston College during your apprenticeship. You will have a line manager/mentor who will work you with you on-site as well as an Assessor in college. College attendance will be 1 day a week, here at our Weston College, South West Skills Campus. EPA (End point assessment) at the end of your apprenticeship.

Working Hours :
Variable, according to requirements of current project. A typical week will consist of 30 hours and the option to work overtime up to 40 hours. Monday to Thursday, variable start / end times normally between the hours of 08:00 and 17:30.
