Apprentice Early Years Educator - Orchard Trees Day Nursery, Thorganby,YO19 6DE

Reporting to the Room Leader, the main responsibilities are to:

Ensure children are cared for to a very high standard, and stay safe. Shadowing the Room Leader or other practitioner, learn how to support children in their day to day activities. Assist (once confident) in providing parents with a full feedback as to their child’s day and answer their questions as to progress, etc. It is vital to maintain good links with parents, and so you may have to do this on behalf of your colleagues as shift patterns vary and staff may not be present when parents collect their key children. Interacting with the children, assisting with Focused Activities appropriate for their age and stage of development. Initially assist with, but then prepare, written observations on children at play, in line with the EYFS and Every Child Matters – full support will be given for this. Assisting with the free flow of children into and out of the garden each day in Over 2s. In Under 2s, ensure outdoor play is available at least twice during the day. Assisting with taking the older children on trips and outings in the nursery vehicles Assist with displaying key children’s work /photographs on noticeboards. Raise any safeguarding or other concerns about any child to the Room Leader or the Manager. Work closely with the other practitioners in the Room to maintain standards and make the room inviting and interesting for children. Help to prepare breakfasts, snacks and teas on a rota basis
Act responsibly with regard to Health and Safety, for example report damaged equipment. On a rota basis assist with cleaning various things: eg Fridges, sink, toys and resources. Use quiet times to tidy throughout the day, or to set up or change activities on offer. Tidy the room at the end of a day. Unit tops and windowsills should be used for displays, not clutter. Ensure the room is tidy for any show rounds (potential parents visiting the setting). Keep the cloakroom area tidy with wellies in bags and have belongings ready to go home. Assist with ensuring the free flow of children into and out of the garden each day in Over 2s. In Under 2s, ensure outdoor play is available at least twice during the day. Assist with setting up focused activities. Offer games and sports and engage with the children at all times. Be extra vigilant with regard to supervising the slide/s and climbing equipment You must undertake any other duties that your Team Leader assigns to you.

Training:

Level 3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship Standard, which includes:

Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required) End-Point Assessment (EPA) Employee Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) Apprentices must successfully complete the Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) or Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF)

Training Outcome:

For the successful candidate there is the possibility of ongoing employment upon completion of the relevant qualification.

An apprenticeship allows you to earn a wage, gain valuable work experience and industry specific competence.



Employer Description:
Orchard Trees Day Nursery has been open since February 2007 and was bought by the current owner, Lindsay Oates in February 2017 who continues to manage the setting. We also have an Out of School club that we call SKOOT which is run from a separate building onsite. In addition Bernadette Oates works at the nursery site as our Office Manager and cook. We have capacity for 88 children within the nursery. We have 4 play rooms for the various age groups and SKOOT is run from the Stables building behind. We have a large garden forming the outdoor play area some of which is under cover, and there are a variety of surfaces for different play including a separate area for Under 2s. The Nursery is open Monday to Friday from 7.00am to 6.30pm all year round, with the exception of Bank Holidays and Christmas week. To cater for SKOOT, we have “Buzz” the space tourer which seats 9 in total, and a Kia “The Guvnor” .In addition to school runs, they take the children on trips and outings and we aim to get out into the local community as much as possible, particularly into the local woodlands. We provide breakfast, snacks, drinks and all nappy changing products free of charge. Parents have a choice of either bringing their own food for lunch and tea or using our food service for an additional daily cost, we provide a hot home-cooked lunch and a snack style tea. Our meals are all prepared using wholesome, nutritious produce and very limited processed foods and sugar is used. There are c.12 staff (including some working part-time and supply) including Lindsay. There is a staff room on-site where the staff take their breaks, and a small staff kitchen for making drinks and heating up food. We provide 2 t-shirts and a hoodie for full time staff members with staff providing their own trousers and sensible shoes and outdoor coat. In winter staff are permitted to wear a black vest/polo neck underneath their nursery t-shirt, and in summer staff may wear cropped trousers.

Working Hours :
The Nursery is open Monday to Friday from 7.00am to 6.30pm - you will work a minimum of 30 hour per week , this could increase to 40 hours per week
