Field-Based Mechanical Engineer (Pipes, Vessels etc.)
We are looking to hire a permanent field-based engineer to join our company which is a household name that are in the energy sector. The purpose of the role will be to carry out routine mechanical maintenance on-site at our large storage depot based in Bristol near Severn Beach and also at our other depots and customer sites in the Bristol and surrounding area. However, work will also be required throughout the UK and you will be working away from home on average 3 weeks every month. We have 120 client sites and 40 of our own across the UK. We have a team of 5 mechanical engineers that cover the country from Scotland to Portsmouth. We do not cover any of the UK islands though. We try to make sure our engineers cover areas most local to where they are based, but these territories are quite large and this is why you will be working away from home. Most jobs will take a few days to complete at the same location for the largest sites. But some smaller jobs will only take one day to complete.
When on site we will need you to carry out mechanical installations of large tanks, including pipework, jointing, testing, purging and then commissioning and issuing a certificate.
The ideal candidate will be a mechanical engineer and have experience installing large commercial installations such a plant equipment. Have experience dealing with heavy power tools such as Pneumatic drills
Skills:
Must have a UK driving licence (6 points max)
Must be an experienced mechanical engineer
Experience in heavy industry using heavy power tools such as pneumatic drills
Be prepared to work away from home 3 weeks out of 4

The role
Our Metocean Measurements team based in Wallingford, Oxfordshire is now seeking an Instrumentation Engineer. The team specialise in monitoring, measuring and providing advice on nearshore, shallow water physical oceanography, predominantly for coastal infrastructure projects and offshore renewables in Europe and Africa. As an Instrumentation Engineer you will be responsible for the maintenance, testing and preparation of Metocean equipment and the building of systems. You will work to strict Health and Safety standard’s and you will be required to write technical documentation and reports and adhere to company procedures. On a daily basis you will collaborate closely with your team members, Project Managers and Oceanographers. You will have the opportunity to work on the latest oceanographic equipment, involved in industry leading projects in a hands-on environment, where you will have to think on your feet and adapt to changing project needs.
Who we’re looking for:
A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Oceanography, Science, Instrumentation, Engineering, Electrical or Mechanical or equivalent.
Previous experience, ideally in the marine industry;
Able to communicate effectively (both verbal and written) with offshore, onshore and Client personnel;
Experience in oil and gas, ocean science, renewables and/or survey industries.

The role
As a Senior Oceanographic Engineer, you will be involved in all aspects of marine surveys to include Metocean field engineering activities, contributing to high HSE standards, maintenance, testing and preparation of Metocean equipment, deployment and recovery of Metocean equipment and offshore client liaison. The role of a Senior Oceanographic Engineer is varied and offers the opportunity to work on projects for offshore wind farms, renewable energy, and oil & gas. This position will suit experienced Senior Oceanographic Engineers looking for a more varied career. The projects range from one or two days to longer trips of up to four weeks with the potential to work all over the world. Our engineers are involved in a mixture of offshore and coastal vessels, drilling platforms and onshore installations. As no two projects are the same, you will need to be resourceful and flexible and enjoy working in a fast-paced and challenging environment. Additionally, you will also be asked to add your experience to project planning. This role can be based out of either our Wallingford, Oxfordshire office or Portchester, Hampshire office.
Who we’re looking for:
Essential
It is essential that you have previous experience in a similar role.
Previous offshore experience on a variety of Metocean projects (or similar type work) and willing to work offshore for approximately 2 to 3 weeks at a time, within UK, Europe and Africa.
Experience using Metocean equipment (or similar) and proficient in the setup and operation of commonly used sensors.
Understand the principles of real-time data, data acquisition and data QC and are proficient in the use of software.
Good at problem solving, enjoy tackling technical challenges.
The ability to work to strict deadlines within short notice changes.
A systematic and methodical approach with a fine attention to detail.
A can-do attitude and good communication and language skills in English (reading, written and spoken).
Full driving licence.
Desirable
BSc degree or above in oceanography, science, instrumentation, engineering, electrical or mechanical.
